The St. Louis Blues will look to bounce back after a 3-2 shootout loss to the Arizona Coyotes in their last outing. Jaden Schwartz opened the scoring for the Blues last in the opening period before Arizona tied the game up at one early on in the 2nd period. The Blues would re-take the lead later in the 2nd thanks to Colton Parayko, but in the 3rd, Arizona would tie the game again. The rest of the 3rd period wouldn’t produce a winner, and neither did overtime, so it was off to the shootout where Arizona scored both of their attempts while the Blues missed both of theirs, handing the win to the Coyotes. Jordan Binnington got the loss, falling to 9-2-4 after stopping 20 of 22 shots faced in regulation and OT but gave up two goals on two shots in the shootout.

The Columbus Blue Jackets will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 3-2 shootout loss to Montreal in their last outing. Eric Robinson opened the scoring for Columbus with just over three minutes to go in the 1st, and the score would hold up through the 2nd before Montreal tied the game at 1-1 early in the 3rd. Zach Werenski gave Columbus a 2-1 lead with less than two minutes to go in the game, but the Blue Jackets couldn’t hold on as Montreal scored in the final minute of regulation to tie the game. OT solved nothing here either, so it was off to the shootout where Columbus missed all three of their attempts while Montreal scored on one of three to take the win. Elvis Merzlikins took the OT loss, falling to 0-1-3 after stopping 30 of 32 shots faced in regulation and OT and 2 of 3 shots in the shootout.

Columbus as a home dog is tempting, but the goaltending consistency in the crease for the Blue Jackets scares me a little bit, as I can’t really trust Korpisalo or Merzlikins. St. Louis lost to Arizona in their last outing, but the Blues have still picked up points in 16 of their 19 games this season, and I just think they’re heads and shoulders the better team, so I'll side with St. Louis here.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and the New Jersey Devils meet in a Metropolitan division clash in NHL action from the Prudential Center on Friday night.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will look to bounce back after a 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Rangers in their last outing. New York jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes of play before Pittsburgh responded with goals from Justin Schultz and Jared McCann in the 2nd period to tie the game up at two. The 3rd period wouldn’t produce a winner, so it was off to overtime where New York found the game-winner just before the midway point of the extra period. Matt Murray took the loss, falling to 9-3-2 after allowing 3 goals on 27 shots faced in the losing effort.

The New Jersey Devils will look to bounce back after a 4-2 loss at home to New Jersey in their last outing. Wayne Simmonds opened the scoring just 4:19 into the game before Ottawa tied the game at one with just over five minutes to go. Will Butcher gave the Devils a 2-1 lead just under three minutes later, and that score would hold through the entire 2nd period and the first half of the 3rd period before Ottawa tied the game at two with six and a half minutes to go. The Sens broke the tie with just over two minutes to go in the 3rd and added an empty net goal with :26 to go to secure the win. MacKenzie Blackwood got the loss to fall to 5-4-3 on the year after allowing 3 goals on 24 shots faced in the losing effort.

Pittsburgh is 1-4 in their last 5 games as a road favorite and 2-6 in their last 8 Friday games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record. New Jersey is 23-50 in their last 73 games as a home underdog and 7-19 in their last 26 division games while the over is 8-2 in their last 10 home games. The underdog is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.

The Devils continue to frustrate me, as when I back them they lose, and when I go against them, they win. With that said, I’m going to give New Jersey another shot here. The Penguins just lost leading scorer and captain Sidney Crosby for 6 weeks after hernia surgery, so there’s going to be some time needed to re-adjust and tweak the lines. The underdog’s had a lot of success in this matchup, and the injury situation seems to have cooked up a perfect storm for it to happen again. I’ll take a stab at New Jersey and the plus money here.

Columbus opened the scoring late in the 1st period, and that goal would hold up through the 2nd period before Brendan Gallagher tied the game at one early in the 3rd period. Columbus would re-take the lead with less than two minutes to play, but Montreal would fight back and Tomas Tatar would tie the game up at two, sending us to some extra hockey. Overtime solved nothing, so it was off to the shootout where Jonathan Drouin scored the lone goal out of all 6 shooters to pick up the win for the Habs. Carey Price got the win to improve to 9-4-2 on the year after stopping 33 of 35 shots faced in the winning effort, as well as all 3 shots faced in the shootout.

The Washington Capitals will look to build on a 2-1 shootout win over the Philadelphia Flyers last time out. Brandon Leipsic opened the scoring for the Caps in the 1st period, and that goal would hold the lead through the 1st, all of the 2nd and the beginning of the 3rd before Philadelphia tied the game on the power play just under seven minutes into the 3rd period. The game wouldn’t be decided in regular time, so it was off to overtime which solved nothing, followed by the shootout. T.J. Oshie and Evgeny Kuznetsov would score while Philadelphia missed two of their three attempts to give the Caps another win. Braden Holtby got the win to improve to 9-1-3 on the year after stopping 30 of 31 shots faced in the winning effort.

Montreal is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall and 1-5 in their last 6 games against the Metropolitan division while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win. Washington is 8-2 in their last 10 games overall and 38-13 in their last 51 Friday games while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 home games. Montreal is 2-6 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.

The plus money with Montreal is tempting, but Washington just looks like their back on one of those runs that we see from the Capitals every year, a run that just comes out of nowhere and you just have to keep blindly going with Washington until it stops paying off. The Capitals just keep finding ways to win and I expect that to continue here so I’ll side with Washington at home in this one.

Northern Ireland is hosting the Netherlands at Windsor Park in round 9 of Euro Cup Qualifications, Group C.

Northern Ireland is still in play to get qualified for the Euro Cup next year but they need to win their last two games against Netherlands and Germany, almost impossible task for this team. With 12 points from 6 games, Northern Ireland is in third place in the standings, 3 points less than Germany and Netherlands. In their last game against the Netherlands, Northern Ireland was forced to defend for the whole game and has had only 24% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 2 corner kicks, and only 46% of correct passes. Northern Ireland had a lead by a goal from Magennis in 75th minute but they weren't able to defend against Netherlands' strong attacks and Northern Ireland has lost 3-1. Magennis is Northern Ireland's top goalscorer with 3 goals and is expected to be in the starting lineup for this game as well. Northern Ireland has a solid team and their best player is Jonny Evans who is the leader of their defense which is the main reason why Northern Ireland is still in play to get qualified. If Northern Ireland had a little bit more luck to end up in a bit weaker group for these qualifications they would be closer to the top, but in this group, with Germany and Netherlands, I don't see Northern Ireland getting closer to the top because their last two games will be the hardest yet.

The Netherlands is first in this qualifications group with 15 points, 19 scored goals and only 7 conceded goals in 6 games. In their last 4 matches in these qualifications, Netherlands has scored 13 goals and the Dutch have won all 4 of those games. In their last game against Belarus, Netherlands was fantastic with 76% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, and 90% of correct passes. Wijnaldum has been one of the best players for the Netherlands in these qualifications and has scored 2 goals in this match which was enough for 1-2 win for the Netherlands. Memphis has scored 6 goals for the Netherlands in these qualifications while Wijnaldum added 5 goals. Since the Netherlands has missed the World Cup last year they have taken a sharp turn and hired Ronald Koeman as a head coach who then got rid of some of the older players and gave the opportunity to young stars like De Light, De Joong and Van de Beek who all became some of the main players for this team. The gamble that Koeman took has paid off big time and the Netherlands has become one of the best teams in Europe. The Netherlands is playing patient soccer with a lot of short passes and high pressure when they don't have the possession, and their defense is getting better with Van Dijk mentoring young De Light who still makes to many mistakes but that will go away with time and he will be the leader of this team in the future. There has been a lot of talks that Koeman will be leaving the Netherlands national team to take over Barcelona but the good news for the Dutch is that that will not happen before the Euro Cup ends. The Netherlands is finally looking like a team they had in the 90' and early 00' and they are one of my top favorites to win the Euro Cup next year.

Despite Northern Ireland playing at home, I don't see them winning here because the Netherlands also needs a win to secure their spot in the Euro Cup and they are a much better team, with solid depth on the bench and I see them getting another three points here.

UC Davis is sitting at 2-1 on the season. the Aggies fell to Loyola IL 82-48 in their open, then cookout William Jessup before dispatching Idaho 65-64 in the game Thursday.

In that victory over Idaho, UC Davis’ top scorer was Caleb Fuller on 18 points, two rebounds and two assists. Ezra Manjon added 17 points there, and Joe Mooney managed 16 points with three rebounds and two assists.

Over on the Arkansas State side, they’re 2-1 so far. The Red Wolves took out AR-Monticello 65-49 in the opener, then fell to Mississippi 71-43 before taking out VMI 71-56 on Thursday.

Arkansas State’s top player in the VMI win was Malik Brevard, who lodged a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Canberk Kus had 18 points and nine rebounds there as well.

UC Davis is 6-22-1 ATS in their last 29 Friday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five non-conference games. The Aggies are 0-4 ATS in their last four overall and the over is 4-0 in their last four overall.

Meanwhile, the Red Wolves are 1-4 ATS in their last five Friday games and the under is 5-0 in their last five non-conference games. The under is 5-1-1 in the Red Wolves’ last seven overall and 7-2 in their last nine Friday games.

UC Davis was down 36-28 at halftime to the Vandals but to their credit they fought back and eked out a one-point win. It was a far cry from the Aggies’ limp effort in their opener, where they only put up 48 points.

Offense is going to be an issue for the Aggies moving forward, and they're going to have to find a nice well-balanced attack here. I’m going to go with Arkansas State on the cover in this one, but it should offer much insight into what these teams are all about.

Chris Whitaker added 10 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Portland State in the loss. Woods leads Portland State with an average of 19.5 points and 4 assists per game while Rashaad Goolsby leads the Vikings in rebounding with 7.5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Portland State is averaging 84 points per game on 43.5% shooting from the field, 32.3% from behind the arc and 69.8% from the foul line this season.

The Hawaii Warriors will look to build on their 2-1 mark after a 72-67 win over Pacific last time out. Eddie Stansberry led the way with 26 points on 7 of 10 shooting with 4 threes while Drew Buggs added 13 points along with a team-high 4 assists as the only other double-digit scorer for Hawaii in the win. Samuta Avea added 3 triples with 9 points while Zigmars Raimo added 6 points with a team-high 4 rebounds and a pair of steals. Stansberry leads Hawaii in scoring with 17.3 points per game while Avea leads the Warriors in rebounding with 5 rebounds per game and Buggs leads Hawaii in assists with 4.7 assists per game this season. As a team, Hawaii is averaging 70.7 points per game on 43.7% shooting from the field, 35.3% from behind the arc and 76.4% from the foul line this season.

Hawaii is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a win while the over is 7-3 in their last 10 games overall.

Portland State looked good against Indiana, but ask anyone, these trips to Hawaii, with the jet lag and time change is no joke. It may not be much for Portland State, but travelling from Indiana, back to Portland and then to Hawaii is a lot for these guys. Hawaii always has an edge playing at home, and I just think it comes to be here as well, so I’ll lay the points with Hawaii in this spot.

The Sacramento Kings were doing it tough during their five-game skid to start the season, but they're suddenly on the right track with four wins in their last five games after beating the Trailblazers in a 107-99 home win on Tuesday. Bogdan Bogdanovic led the team in scoring with 25 points and 10 assists off the bench, Buddy Hield added 20 points on seven of 21 shooting while Nemanja Bjelica chipped in with 19 points, 12 rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Kings shot 44 percent from the field and 11 of 32 from the 3-point line as they stuck with the Trailblazers in a tight first half, before they came out strong in the third quarter where they outscored the Trailblazers by 35-21. D'Aaron Fox sat out the game with an ankle sprain and will be re-evaluated in 3-4 weeks.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have been on a tear lately as they've won nine of their first 11 games and they will be gunning for a third straight victory after making light work of the Warriors in a 120-94 home win on Wednesday. LeBron James led from the front with 23 points and 12 assists, Kyle Kuzma added 22 points on seven of 12 shooting while JaVale McGee racked up 18 points with 17 rebounds and three blocks in a rare start. As a team, the Lakers shot a healthy 53 percent from the field and nine of 20 from the 3-point line as they cruised to victory after jumping out to an early double-digit lead in the first quarter. Anthony Davis sat out the game with a sore shoulder and rib cage, while Rajon Rondo sat out as the Lakers plan to ease him back into the rotation.

Looking at the betting trends, the Kings are 1-4 ATS in the last five games against a team with a winning record, 2-8 ATS in their last 10 against the Western Conference and the Kings are 5-0 ATS in their last five games overall. The Lakers are 6-0 ATS in their last six against the Western Conference, 8-2 ATS in their last 10 against a team with a losing record and 7-1 ATS in their last eight home games.

Head to head, the under is 10-3-1 in the last 14 meetings, the Kings are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Los Angeles and the Kings are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings overall.
The Kings have sprung to life after a terrible start to the season and they will be full of confidence following their win over the Trailblazers. However, the Lakers have been on fire lately, especially at home where they've won five of six. Anthony Davis is also expected to play Friday which is obviously a major boost for the Lakers who are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings overall. With that being said, I'm taking the Lakers to stay red-hot with a win and cover at home.

As a team, North Dakota State is averaging 73.7 points per game on 43.2% shooting from the field, 28.8% from behind the arc and 75% from the foul line this season.

The UTRGV Vaqueros will look to build on a 93-42 win over subdivision Howard Payne in their last outing. Quinton Johnson II led the way with 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting with 5 threes while Jordan Jackson added 15 points on 6 of 9 shooting with a pair of threes. Anthony Bratton and Javon Levi each had 10 points with Bratton shooting a perfect 5 of 5 while Levi added 12 assists and 4 steals for the double-double. Lesley Varner II added 9 points with a team-high 7 assists and 6 assists as well in the winning effort. Levi leads UTRGV with an average of 14 points and 6 assists per game while Varner II leads the Vaqueros in rebounding with 8.5 rebounds per game this season.

North Dakota State is 11-29-1 ATS in their last 41 non-conference games and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a win while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. UTRGV is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games and 15-7 ATS in their last 22 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 8-1 in their last 9 games overall.

North Dakota State is the more well-known team, but while this is technically a neutral site game, the game is taking place just over two hours north from UTRGV’s campus. The Vaqueros usually step up against better teams, and with not having much else to go on, I’ll take a chance with the Vaqueros and the points in this one.

Josh Richardson led the team in scoring with 19 points and five assists, Ben Simmons added 18 points with five assists while Al Horford chipped in with 14 points and eight rebounds on five of 18 shooting. As a team, the 76ers shot just 44 percent from the field and eight of 30 from the 3-point line as they led by six points late in the third quarter, until the Magic stole the momentum and the game with a decisive 22-5 run. Joel Embiid sat out the game with a sore left knee and his status for Friday is unclear.

Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder have been in a bit of a slump themselves as they've lost three of their last four games and they will be hoping to respond after getting routed by the Pacers in a 111-85 road loss on Tuesday. Danilo Gallinari led the team in scoring with just 14 points, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 11 points while Chris Paul chipped in with just seven points and eight assists. As a team, the Thunder shot a miserable 35 percent from the field and six of 25 from the 3-point line as they fell behind by 10 points at halftime, before getting blown out in the third quarter where they were outscored by 34-20.

Looking at the betting trends, the 76ers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a loss, 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a losing record and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games against a team below .400. The Thunder are 4-0 ATS in their last four games playing on two days rest, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a loss of more than 10 points.

Head to head, the under is 10-3 in the last 13 meetings, the 76ers are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings in Oklahoma City and the 76ers are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall.

The 76ers have cooled off a bit after a hot start to the season, so they will be keen to get back into the win column after getting routed on Wednesday. The Thunder have been poor to start the season, but they've actually been not bad at home where they've won four of their seven games, so this one could go either way. Embiid is likely to return to the lineup after sitting out on Wednesday for load maintainence so I like the 76ers to bounce back with a win and cover here with the line being so short.

Trhae Mitchell also added a team-high 4 assists as well in the defeat. Ajayi leads South Alabama with an average of 19.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game this season. As a team, South Alabama is averaging 75.3 points per game on 46.9% shooting from the field, 29.1% from behind the 3-point line and 73.3% from the foul line this season.

The Chattanooga Mocs will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 74-68 road win over Troy last time out. Matt Ryan led the Mocs with 21 points on 7 of 16 shooting with 4 threes and a team-high 5 assists while David Jean-Baptiste added 13 points as the only other Chattanooga player to score in double figures in the winning effort. Maurice Commander added 7 points with 4 assists while Ramon Vila had a team-high 10 rebounds in the winning effort. As a team, Chattanooga is averaging 67 points per game on 36.2% shooting from the field, 33.3% from behind the arc and 68.3% from the foul line this season.

South Alabama is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against the SoCon and 15-7-1 ATS in their last 23 games overall while the under is 9-4 in their last 13 non-conference games. Chattanooga is 8-22-2 ATS in their last 32 home games and 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 games overall.

These two teams have met three times ever, and for what it’s worth all three meetings have been decided by double digits. Chattanooga will want revenge for last season’s 19-point loss to South Alabama, but the Mocs haven’t been good against the spread at home and I just think that the Jaguars are the better team. I was really impressed with what I saw from South Alabama against Auburn, and as such, I’ll lay the points with South Alabama on the road here.

Donovan Mitchell led the team with 30 points on 13 of 26 shooting, Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley each scored 18 points while Emmanuel Mudiay chipped in with 15 points off the bench. As a team, the Jazz shot 46 percent from the field and just six of 26 from the 3-point line as they trailed by 15 points at halftime, before rallying in the second half where they outscored the Nets by 66-46 to finish with one of their best wins of the season so far.

Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies lost five of their first six games of the season, but they're suddenly aiming for a third straight win after sneaking past the Hornets in a 119-117 road win on Wednesday. Ja Morant steered the offense with 23 points and 11 assists, Jonas Valanciunas added 18 points with 13 rebounds while Jaren Jackson Jr. chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Grizzlies shot a healthy 53 percent from the field and 17 of 35 from the 3-point line as they battled with the Hornets in a close contest before Morant stole the game on a game-winning layup with 0.7 seconds left.

Looking at the betting trends, the Jazz are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games, 1-5 ATS in their last six games playing on two days rest and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team below .400. The Grizzlies are 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record, and 0-4 ATS in their last four home games against a team with a losing road record.

Head to head, the road team is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings, the under is 21-7 in the last 28 meetings in Memphis and the Jazz are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings.

The Jazz have been solid as a rock to start the season and they're coming into this one fresh off a comeback win over the Nets. However, the Grizzlies have sprung to life with a couple of wins on the trot and they're looking for another upset after their thrilling last-second win over the Hornets on Wednesday. The Grizzlies are a chance of an upset if Morant has another big game, but I'd rather side with the stingy defense of the Jazz to get the win and cover here.

Carson Williams added 12 points with 6 rebounds and a team-high 4 assists while Jared Savage added 11 points with a pair of blocks and Charles Bassey added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double to cap off the scoring in doubles figures for the Hilltoppers in the win. Justice leads Western Kentucky in scoring with 18.5 points per game while Hollingsworth leads the Hilltoppers in assists with 3 assists per game and Bassey leads WKU in rebounding by averaging a double-double per game with 13 points and 10.5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Western Kentucky is averaging 86.5 points per game on 54.9% shooting from the field, 44.4% from behind the arc and 81.8% from the foul line this season.

The Eastern Kentucky Colonels come into this game looking to build on their 2-1 start after a 129-43 dismantling of subdivision Ohio-Chillicothe last time out. Jomaru Brown led the way with 22 points on 8 of 14 shooting with 4 threes and 3 steals while Ty Taylor II had 20 points with 6 threes, 5 assists and 5 steals. Russhard Cruickshank added 15 points with 5 triples and team-highs of 6 assists and 6 steals while Tre King added 14 points with 8 boards and 3 steals. Tariq Balogun and Lachlan Anderson each added 13 points and Michael Moreno and Cameron Carmical each had 10 points with 4 steals, with Moreno adding 4 assists and a team-high 13 rebounds for the double-double. Brown leads EKU in scoring with 13.7 points per game while Moreno leads the Colonels in rebounding with 6.3 rebounds per game and Cruickshank leads Eastern Kentucky in assists with 4 assists per game this season. As a team, Eastern Kentucky is averaging 85.7 points per game on 44.6% shooting from the field, 34.8% from behind the arc and 80.4% from the foul line this season.

Western Kentucky is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Eastern Kentucky is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games against C-USA and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 home games. Western Kentucky is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.

I’d like to give Eastern Kentucky a look at home after their strong offensive performance last time out, but the fact is that Western Kentucky has had the Colonels’ number, winning 65 of 88 all-time meetings, including going 21-3 against Eastern Kentucky since 1980, and four of the last 5 meetings have been decided by double figures. It’s a lean, but I’ll lay the points with Western Kentucky on the road here.

The San Antonio Spurs have been in a real slump lately as they've lost five of their last six games and they will be hoping to snap a three-game skid after falling to the Timberwolves in a 129-114 road loss on Wednesday. The San Antonio Spurs have been in a real slump lately as they've lost five of their last six games and they will be hoping to snap a three-game skid after falling to the Timberwolves in a 129-114 road loss on Wednesday. DeMar DeRozan led the team with 27 points and four assists, LaMarcus Aldridge added 23 points on 10 of 16 shooting while Bryn Forbes chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Spurs shot 48 percent from the field and a miserable three of 17 from the 3-point line, but the problems were actually on the defensive end as they allowed the Timberwolves to pour in 40 points in the second and third quarters. Dejounte Murray scored just 11 points in 22 minutes of action while the Spurs' second unit didn't match the Timberwolves' bench.

Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic look to have moved on from their slow start to the season as they will now be aiming for a third win in four games after blowing past the 76ers in an impressive 112-97 home win on Wednesday. Nikola Vucevic led the way with 25 points and 12 rebounds, Aaron Gordon added 18 points with 13 rebounds and seven assists while Evan Fournier and Terrence Ross each scored 13 points. As a team, the Magic shot 44 percent from the field and 10 of 32 from the 3-point line as they hung with the 76ers in a close contest until the fourth quarter where they outscored them by 32-15 to make it a blowout. With the win, Orlando improved to 4-7 overall and 4-3 at home.

Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games, 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a losing record and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall. The Magic are 15-7-1 ATS in their last 23 home games, 0-4 ATS in their last four games following a win and 4-1 ATS in their last five home games against a team with a losing road record.

Head to head, the under is 7-2 in the last nine meetings, the road team is 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetings overall and the Spurs are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings in Orlando.

It's odd to see the Spurs going through such a slump after starting the season so well, but they just haven't been able to get it done as their second unit has faltered while their defense has been porous. The Magic haven't been in great form by any means, but they will be playing their fourth game of a five-game home stand and they will be looking to build on their upset win over the 76ers. Usually I would take the Spurs in this spot, but they're just 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games, so I'm taking the Magic to get the win at home behind a big game from Vucevic.

In the Southern Utah win, BYU’s Jake Toolson put up 22 points with three assists and five rebounds. Dalton Nixon managed 13 points with seven rebounds and three assists there as well.

Over on the Houston side, they’ve played just one game this year: an 84-56 victory over Alabama State. In that one, Marcus Sasser led the team on 14 points with two rebounds, and Quentin Grimes logged 13 points, five rebounds and three assists.

BYU is 6-2 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss and 5-12 ATS in their last 17 road games. BYU is also 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall and 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 Friday games.

Meanwhile, Houston is 4-1 ATS in their last five non-conference games and 25-11-1 ATS in their last 37 after a straight-up win. Houston is 34-16-2 ATS in their last 52 overall and the under is 5-1-1 in the last seven overall.

BYU let San Diego State get out to a seven-point lead at halftime and couldn’t catch up after that. Otherwise, they could very well be undefeated right now and looking good going into this matchup.

As for Houston, they looked solid going against ASU, but it’ll take a little while before we can tell what that team is all about this year. Still, I think BYU has enough firepower to keep up here, so I’m going with them on the cover.

Over on the Baylor side, they’re 1-1 so far. The Bears blew out Central Arkansas 105-61 in the opener, then fell to Washington 67-64 last Friday.

In the Washington game, Baylor’s top scorer was Jared Bulter with 18 points, four assists and three rebounds. Freddie Gillespie doubled up in that one with 11 points and 11 rebounds as well.

The Bobcats are 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven Friday games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall. Texas State is 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win and 0-4 ATS in their last four road games.

Meanwhile, Baylor is 6-1 ATS in the last seven non-conference games and 4-9-2 ATS in their last 15 overall. The Bears are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss and 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight home games.

Texas State’s wins have both been blowouts, and they hung pretty well with Air Force in the seven-point loss. This game is going to be quite a bit tougher however, and the Bobcats will have to be on their toes.

The Bears have played well so far in their two games, and nearly toppled Washington (who had to come back) in a classic. I like Baylor to assert themselves here, so I’m going Bears on the cover.

Over on the Louisiana side, they sit at 2-1 so far. The Cajuns beat Loyola 95-67 and McNeese State 85-80, but then fell to TCU 98-65 on Tuesday in game three.

In the TCU loss, Louisiana’s Jalen Johnson put up 21 points, while Cedric Russell added 18 points, with three assists and three rebounds. Mylik Wilson posted 16 points and six rebounds there as well.

Youngstown State is 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five non-conference games. The Penguins are 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall and 2-5 ATS in their last seven Friday games.

Meanwhile, the Cajuns are 4-1 ATS in their last five Friday games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five versus the Horizon League. Louisiana is 1-4 ATS in their last five non-conference games and the over is 6-2 in the last eight non-conference games.

Youngstown State hasn’t faced an opponent that’s around their level just yet; they beat Thiel by almost 50 points, then were humbled by a great Louisville team. This matchup should be a little closer to the Penguins’ level, so we’ll get to see what both teams are made of here.

Louisiana has shown they can score points, and they’ve also shown they can allow points (178 over their last pair). I’m going to go with the Penguins here eking into a cover, but it’s probably one I”m staying away from.

Over on the Rhode Island side, they’re 1-1 as well. The Rams beat LIU Brooklyn 76-65 in their opener, but fell to Maryland 73-55 back on Saturday.

In the Maryland loss, Rhode Island’s Jeff Down led the way on 14 points, while Jermaine Harris had 10 points and five rebounds. Cyril Langevine finished with 17 rebounds and six points there as well.

Alabama is 6-2 ATS in their last eight Friday games and 3-10 ATS in their last 13 overall. The Tide are 1-5 ATS in their last six after an ATS win and 0-7-1 ATS in their last eight versus the Atlantic 10.

Meanwhile, the Rams are 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss and 1-5 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss. Rhode Island is 0-6 ATS in their last six non-conference games.

Alabama couldn’t shake Penn in their opener loss, though they did keep pace in the one-point defeat. The Florida Atlantic game went better, as four Alabama players finished in double-figures.

As for Rhode Island, they took care of business in their first game but weren’t really a match for Maryland. This one should be closer, but I still like Alabama to manage a cover.

The Missouri State Bears will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 73-53 win over Cleveland State last time out. Keandre Cook led the Bears with 19 points on 6 of 11 shooting with 9 rebounds while Tulio Da Silva added 13 points with 7 rebounds and Lamont West chipped in 10 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Missouri State in the win. Kabir Mohammed added 9 points with a team-high 11 rebounds as well in the winning effort. Cook leads Missouri State in scoring with 19.3 points per game while Da Silva leads Missouri State in rebounding with 9.3 rebounds per game and Tyrik Dixon leads the Bears in assists with 3.7 assists per game this season. As a team, Missouri State is averaging 66 points per game on 40.5% shooting from the field, 31.2% from behind the 3-point line and 72.7% from the foul line this season.

The Xavier Musketeers will look to remain unbeaten after improving to 3-0 with a 63-58 overtime win over Missouri last time out. Naji Marshall led the Musketeers with 17 points along with 8 rebounds while Jason Carter and Paul Scruggs each had 12 points, with Carter adding 11 rebounds for the double-double while Scruggs had 5 boards. Tyrique Jones added 6 points with 8 rebounds and 3 steals as well in the victory for the Musketeers. Marshall leads Xavier with an average of 18 points and 4.7 assists per game while Jones leads the Musketeers in rebounding with 8.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Xavier is averaging 73.3 points per game on 41.3% shooting from the field, 20.6% from behind the arc and 67.1% from the foul line this season.

Missouri State is 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 7-17 ATS in their last 24 road games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 non-conference games. Xavier is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 home games.

The Bears handily put forth a cover in their last outing, but the fact is that the Bears haven’t been very good against the number dating back to last season. Xavier is once again one of the more under the radar teams in the country, and I just think that at home, the Musketeers end up being way too much for Missouri State, so I’ll lay the points with Xavier who I see rolling here.

The West Virginia Mountaineers and the Pittsburgh Panthers will meet on the college basketball circuit Friday.

It’ll be a week since the Mountaineers last took the court. They played Akron in their opener on Friday, taking a 94-84 victory.

In the win over the Zips, West Virginia’s top scorers were Derek Culver and Jermaine Haley, who each scored 16 points and seven rebounds while combining for five assists.

Over on the Pittsburgh side, they’re 2-1 so far. The Panthers opened with a win over Florida State, then fell to Nicholls State last Saturday. On Tuesday, Pitt took out Robert Morris.

In the victory over the Colonials, Pittsburgh’s Trey McGowens had 25 points with eight rebounds and five assists. Au’Dise Toney added 11 points, while Ryan Murphy and Justin Champagnie had 10 points apiece.

The Mountaineers are 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six versus the ACC. West Virginia is 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games and 0-5 ATS in their last five Friday games.

Meanwhile, the Panthers are 4-0 ATS in their last four Friday games and 4-0-1 ATS in their last five versus the Big 12. Pitt is 2-5-1 ATS in the last eight at home and 4-14-1 ATS in the last 19 overall.

West Virginia came out pretty strong in their first game, rolling to a big 47-33 lead at halftime against the Zips. The Mountaineers then put up another 47 points in the second half in the 10-point victory.

As for Pitt, they dug themselves a 10-point hole in the first half against Nicholls State but probably should have won that game. The Panthers are going to have to jump out quick here if they want to keep the Mountaineers at bay. That may be a little much to ask so I’m going WVU on the cover.

The Marshall Thundering Herd and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish meet in college basketball action from Purcell Pavilion on Friday night.

The Marshall Thundering Herd come into this game looking to rebound after their first loss of the season in a 96-70 loss to Toledo last time out. Jarrod West and Taevion Kinsey tied for the team-high with 20 points as the only two Marshall players to score in double figures in the loss, with West shooting 9 of 15 with a pair of threes and 4 steals while Kinsey added a team-high 3 assists. Cam Brooks-Harris added a team-high 7 rebounds with a pair of steals and a pair of blocks as well in the losing effort. West leads Marshall in scoring with 20 points per game while Kinsey leads the Thundering Herd in assists with 4 assists per game and Brooks-Harris leads Marshall in rebounding with 8.5 rebounds per game. As a team, Marshall is scoring 68.5 points per game on 43.3% shooting from the field, 23.3% from behind the arc and 63.9% from the foul line this season.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 79-50 win over Howard last time out. John Mooney led the Irish with 18 points on 8 of 16 shooting, along with team-highs of 16 rebounds and 5 assists for the double-double. Juwan Durham and Dane Goodwin each had 11 points with Durham shooting 5 of 6 from the field with 5 rebounds, a pair of steals and a pair of blocks while Goodwin added 3 assists. Rex Pflueger added 10 points with 5 rebounds to round out the group of double-digit scorers for the Irish in the win. Prentiss Hubb added 9 points and 4 assists, but still leads Notre Dame in scoring and assists with an average of 14.7 points and 4.7 assists per game while Mooney leads the Irish in rebounding by averaging a double-double per game with 12.7 points and a team-high 11.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Notre Dame is averaging 78.7 points per game on 47% shooting from the field, 30.3% from behind the 3-point line and 75% from the foul line this season.

Marshall is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 road games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 non-conference games. Notre Dame is 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 home games and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against C-USA while the under is 16-5 in their last 21 games overall.

This feels like a lot of points on the surface as Marshall’s normally been a team that can hang with better teams offensively. However, the Herd scraped by Robert Morris by 7 at home, the same Robert Morris team that was waxed by Notre Dame by 35 points a couple of days later. The Irish just seem to be able to beat up the lesser teams in the early going, and I’ll look for more of the same here and I’ll lay the points with Notre Dame in this one.
