Ruffolo's Thursday MLB Pickoff Play

I get the reasoning for looking at Oakland after sweeping Seattle and playing at home here, but the travel is far less egregious for the Rangers only coming from Anaheim. That’s one angle.

The angle I love more is that we’re getting plus money with Martin Perez, who is having a career start to this season, posting a 1.64 ERA and the Rangers have won his last four starts with Perez allowing just one earned run or less in each of his last six starts and going at least six innings in each of those. On the flipside, Frankie Montas goes here for the A’s and the A’s have lost Montas’ last five starts in a row, and a lot of that has been a lack of run support for Montas as the A’s have scored one run or less in four of Montas’ last five starts, including three shutouts in that stretch. That’s unlikely to change against Perez, who is coming off of a complete game shutout against Houston and has been mowing teams down left and right, with the A’s hitting just .222 vs. lefties on the year and an abysmal .159 against lefties at home on the year.
