SHOTGUN SATURDAY CFB #1
Syracuse Orange (0-0) at North Carolina Tar Heels (0-0)

I get why the Tar Heels would be favored so heavily here as North Carolina looks like a legitimate threat in the ACC under Mack Brown and with freshman QB Sam Howell at the helm who threw for 3,641 yards and 38 touchdowns last year with just seven picks. On the other hand, Tommy Devito is back under center for Syracuse after throwing for 2,360 yards and 19 touchdowns with 5 interceptions last season. Devito’s offensive line let him down a lot last year but the offensive line should be better with an extra year of experience to protect Devito and a new offensive coordinator in Sterlin Gilbert that will play to Syracuse’s strength offensively and that’s passing the football. The forecast is also calling for a lot of rain and some wind in Chapel Hill close to game-time, and we’ve seen the impact that the weather can have on any game and it could lend itself to a possession based, run heavy game that chews a lot of clock and makes building a huge lead for a cover a really tough task. At worst I envision this being a 38-17 win for UNC with clear skies, so I’ll take my chances with Syracuse and the points as my premium pick for this game.
