Army Black Knights (9-2) vs West Virginia Mountaineers (5-4)

West Virginia was one of the bigger money maker teams for me over the course of the college football season but I think this is a bad spot for the Mountaineers. West Virginia was 5-4 on the year and all four of those losses came on the road or away from home on a neutral field. Also, Motivation is a big part of certain bowl games and Army might be one of the most motivated teams in the country. Sure, Army didn’t have the toughest schedule, but how does a nine-win team not get invited to a single bowl game with all of the cheesy bowls we have in a regular year? It took a cancellation for Army to get their crack. When you have a team that had players that were crying because they didn’t get an invite to a bowl game, you have to imagine that the motivation and chips on their proverbial shoulders has to be massive. From a strictly gameplay perspective, West Virginia struggled to move the ball at times and if you give Army cracks, this is the kind of game where they can make you pay. West Virginia will be without their leading tackler in Tony Fields II and this offense stalled way too much for my liking in the regular season and stuff like that won’t work when Army makes you pay with long, sustained drives, keeping your offense off of the field. This Army team wants to play and I’m ready to see them get to business. I’ll back Army and the points as my premium pick for this game.
