At 10:35 pm, our selection is on the Edmonton Oilers over the Chicago Blackhawks. It's hard to imagine many positive take-aways from a Game 1 lopsided loss to a 12 seed when you are the heavy favorite. But Edmonton actually has some things to build on as it prepares for Game 2 after a 6-4 defeat on Saturday. First, there's the fact that, from the second period on, the Oilers out-scored Chicago 3-2. The problem, of course, was the four first period goals they surrendered. If they can prevent another early meltdown they should be fine. Second is the fact that after veteran goalie Mike Smith was pulled following a dismal performance (five goals in 23 shots), back-up Mikko Koskinen stepped in and saved 18 of 19 the rest of the way. It hasn't been announced but don't be surprised if the 31-year-old Koskinen gets the call tonight off of that superb effort which was too little too late for Edmonton. The Oilers are 11-4 (+8 games on the money line) in their last 15 after allowing five or more goals in their previous game, and 15-6 off a loss by 2+ goals. Take the Oilers. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
