PointsBet

PointsBet is an Australian bookmaker that made its way to the United States market only recently. In December 2018, the company was given the go by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement to operate in the Garden State. PointsBet partnered with the Meadowlands Racetrack so that it could offer an online sportsbook in the state.

PointsBet offers all the normal sports wagers that other sportsbooks do, but they also offer a unique twist called spread betting, modeled after the stock market’s financial spread bets. Basically, you are rewarded for getting your wager correct as close to the final outcome as possible.

PointsBet Bonuses

Like most other online sportsbooks, SportsBet offers a plethora of bonuses and promotions to players on its site. When you go to their site to sign up as a new player, you will notice that a Promo Code of “WELCOME” is pre-populated in the box for you. This will give you two risk-free bets worth up to $1,000.

This bonus is designed to introduce players to the site’s unique spread betting system that they call PointsBetting. How it works is you place your first PointsBetting wager, and if the bet loses, the site will refund you however much you lost by giving you up to $500 worth of bonus bets.

The second half of that bonus is a similar offer but on fixed odds wagers, which are the “normal” straight against-the-spread bets most sports bettors are familiar with.  PointsBet will refund the losses on your first fixed odds wager up to $500 in the form of bonus bets as well.

For both of these promos, bonuses are not issued if you win your bet. Bonuses that are issued for your losses cannot be withdrawn as cash and must be used toward a wager on the site. Wagers that result in a push or that are voided will cancel the promo.

PointsBet Ongoing Promotions

In addition to the welcome wager for new players, PointsBet offers a running list of ongoing promotions. These promos are listed in the main menu of the site and are updated according to the season.

Early Payouts

One of the common promotions PointsBet runs is an early payout. For example, right now, the site is offering an NBA Playoffs Promo that will give you an early payout if your team is leading after the third quarter. If you place a MoneyLine Bet on an NBA Playoff game and your team is winning after three quarters, PointsBet will instantly pay you out the first $100 of your wager.

The site is running a similar promotion for the NHL Playoffs. On your first MoneyLine wager, if your team leads by two goals at any point, they’ll pay you out early up to the first $200 wagered.

Booster Odds

Another common promotion PointsBet runs is an odds booster. Right now, the site is offering a 50% boost on certain parlay bets. If you place an eight-plus leg parlay bet and you win, PointsBet will pay you an extra 50% of your winnings up to $200.

Name a Bet

This is a unique feature that PointsBet offers as well. If you think of a wager that isn’t offered on the site, you just have to tweet them @PointsBetUSA with the hashtag #nameabet, and they will put a price on it and accept your wager. For example, if you think the Philadelphia 76ers will win their upcoming game by 4 points in overtime, you can ask PointsBet to price it, and if they do, you can place a wager on it.

Odds and Betting at PointsBet

PointsBet offers a plethora of choices when it comes to wagers available on their site. They offer betting on almost any sport you could want, including:

  • Football
  • MMA
  • Soccer
  • Basketball
  • Baseball
  • Boxing
  • Golf
  • Hockey
  • Tennis
  • Aussie Rules
  • Motor Racing
  • Cricket
  • Cycling
  • Darts
  • Rugby Union

They offer both normal against-the-spread and moneyline bets on all of the sports above as well as their PointsBetting option as well. The company said they were hoping to offer the most options around when they launched, and it looks like they may have fulfilled that promise. For some games, PointsBet offers more than 200 different betting options in just one game.

PointsBet Rewards Program

PointsBet offers a Rewards Program for players that gives points for every bet you make as part of a loyalty program. The Rewards points that you earn can be used at a later time to place a bonus bet on the site.

PointsBet offers rewards points in this way:

  • 1 Rewards point for every $5 fixed odds bet
  • 1 Rewards point for every $1 parlay bet
  • 1 Rewards point for every dollar won or lost in PointsBetting

You can check out how many Rewards points you have earned by clicking on the “rewards” tab on their website or mobile app, and redeem your free bets straight from there. The site uses a calculation rate of $1 in free bets per 100 Rewards points.

PointsBet Live Betting

One of the newer offerings at sportsbooks around the country is live betting, sometimes also known as in-game betting, and PointsBet offers this feature.

How it works is that, instead of placing a wager before the game starts, you instead place a wager while the game is already in play. PointsBet will offer ever-changing odds on a game as it is going on based on the current score and situation of the game, compared to the original projected point spread and odds. Players can stay logged onto the site while a game is going on to monitor the changing Live Betting lines, and then place a wager when he feels the odds are in his favor.

At PointsBet, Live Betting is available on almost all of the games they offer wagers on.

PointsBet’s Website

The PointsBet website is a no-nonsense site that gets right to the point. When you go to the homepage, you’ll be welcome with a slider of current promotions the site is offering at the top, with lines of Featured Bets below and even an Up Next section that shows you what games are about to start that you can wager on.

To browse the site by sport, you simply click on the menu at the top left to expand the tab, and then select the sport you wish to see. The page will then change to show you all the upcoming games, as well as an Up Next section for that sport as well.

The site is clean and simple with no frills, making it attractive to sports bettors of all types, whether you’re an experienced professional, a casual bettor or a total newbie.

PointsBet Cash Out

PointsBet offers a Cash Out feature where you can end your bet early and collect your winnings (or mitigate your losses). This feature is only available on pre-game single bets with fixed odds.

Through the Cash Out, you can settle a bet before the game ends to collect your winnings early (in case things go bad toward the end) or mitigate your losses (if your team is getting killed and doesn’t look like a good bet to recover).

PointsBet Mobile

PointsBet is one of the companies that offers mobile gaming in New Jersey.

Overall Mobile Experience

If you place a bet using the PointsBet mobile app, you’ll still have to follow the state’s rules in regard to sports betting. That means that you must be in the state of New Jersey to place a bet, even if you have the app on your phone. Once you’re verified, though, it’s an easy experience to place a bet on the app.

PointsBet App

PointsBet offers mobile apps for both Android and Apple devices. This is a great feature, as it covers the majority of smartphones as well as tablets that are on the market.

The PointsBet App has great functionality that rivals that of its website. It’s easy to download, sign up or sign in and do everything you’d want to do at the website, including making a deposit or withdraw and placing a wager. It’s simply to do at your fingertips with the PointsBet App.

PointsBet Deposits and Withdrawals

One of the disappointing aspects of PointsBet is they provide very minimal information about deposit and withdrawal policies on their site. They clearly lay out that they accept deposits in the form of Visa, MasterCard and online banking, and their Terms and Conditions lays out that they will allow withdrawals to those payment forms as well, but it’s hard to find any additional information such as processing time.

With credit and debit cards, there is a $5 minimum deposit and $50,000 maximum. For ACH transactions straight from your bank, there is a $50,000 limit per transaction. One thing to keep in mind is that your bank or the bank that issues your credit cards may decide to reject the deposit per their policies against online gambling of any form.

To get the best information on your deposits and withdrawals, it would be best to do a Live Chat with a representative.

PointsBet says it will not charge any fees for credit card deposits or withdrawals, which is nice. They say they reserve the right to place deposit limits on players, but they don’t outline why they might do so. They also offer a feature that allows you to place a deposit limit on yourself. It’s called a pre-commitment limit that you set that restricts how much you can deposit into your account by day, week and/or month.

About PointsBet

PointsBet began in Australia in 2017, but quickly expanded their reach when New Jersey legalized sports gambling following the overturn of the federal PASPA law by the Supreme Court in 2018.

The company began with the idea in mind that they would provide more wagering offerings and types than any other online sportsbook in the market, and they’ve done a pretty good job of that.

As mentioned before, the flagship offering of PointsBet is their innovative PointsBetting system, modeled after stock market wagering, that rewards players for being “more right” with their wagers.

PointsBet Gambling License

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement approved PointsBet for a sports gambling license in the state in December 2018. As required by state law, PointsBet had to partner with a land-based casino or racetrack in order to offer their online sportsbook. As such, PointsBet partnered with the Meadlowlands Racetrack.

PointsBet Customer Support

PointsBet offers three options for customer support. First, they offer the traditional phone support. You can contact the Customer Service line at (833) 338-PBET at any time. They also email support through their support email, [email protected].

What’s nice about PointsBet is that they also offer a Live Chat feature on both their website and mobile apps. This allows you to connect directly with a live customer support agent while you are on the site or in the app. We like this feature the best, as it provides instant connectivity and support, without the hassle of having to place a phone call or open an email and wait for a response.

PointsBet Terms and Conditions

PointsBet’s Terms and Conditions are fairly typical of other online sportsbooks that are available on the market. You can view the full details at https://pointsbet.com/terms-and-conditions.

Credit Guaranteed Packages

Packages with Credit Guarantees automatically give you a credit if the package does not turn a profit—the sum of betting all individual picks. THESE ARE NOT PARLAYS UNLESS OTHERWISE CLEARLY STATED. If a credit guaranteed package does not profit, a credit for its full purchase price is automatically issued after picks are graded and verified.

For example, if you purchase a $39.95 package that doesn’t profit, you’ll get a $39.95 credit towards any future purchase(s) on our site. Credits are usually issued within hours of a game’s conclusion, so please allow a few hours for final verification.

To use your credits, log in to your account and add another package or pass to your cart. Credits will automatically reduce what you owe. Any remaining balance will be settled through our payment system, with any leftover credits available future purchases. Credits do not expire.
