Devils Look to Bounce Back
The Devils have been up and down as of late, and they are coming off another loss in the last game. The Devils managed only one goal against the Vegas Golden Knights and that led to the defeat. Ondrej Palat was in goal and scored the only goal for New Jersey and that came in the third period. By that point, they had already given up two goals in the second period. Two games ago against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Devils were able to secure a 3-2 victory in a shootout.
The Devils are averaging 3.04 goals while their defense is giving up 2.52 goals per game. The offense is ranked 13th in the league while the defense is ranked 4th. Overall, they have really leaned on that strong defense, but sometimes, when the defense hasn’t been lights out, they haven’t been able to pick up wins because of the lack of offense. They are facing only 26.11 shots per game, which is 3rd in the league. Jack Hughes has scored 23 goals and added 40 assists so far this season.
Can the Canadiens Bounce Back?
The Canadiens, in the last game, faced off against the LA Kings, and they blew the game late and ended up losing 6-3. The Canadiens scored two goals in the third period, but the defense gave up four goals, and that led to the defeat. Jakub Dobes was in goal and he faced too many shots and couldn’t make enough saves, finishing with saves on 31 of the 36 shots. Mike Matheson did have a strong game scoring a goal. Two games ago, against the San Jose Sharks, they ended up winning 3-2.
Montreal, on the season, is averaging 2.93 goals per game while their defense is giving up 3.39 goals per game. The offense is ranked 16th in the league while the defense is ranked 29th. As a team, they are shooting 11.38 percent, which is 4th best; they just haven’t been peppering enough shots on the net to get the offense going. Nick Suzuki has been the top player scoring, scoring 15 goals and adding 37 assists. On Sunday, the Tampa Bay Lightning will come to town to face Montreal.
New Jersey Devils vs Montreal Canadiens Prediction
I really don’t trust either of these teams right now, so we aren’t going to make a play on the side. That being said, I believe this game will end up being lower-scoring. The Devil’s defense has been strong most of the team giving up 2.52 goals per game and their defense is going to step up in a big way here. I don’t expect their offense is going to really step up, though, and this game will end up staying under the total. Back the under to cash here.
