In this article, we will formulate a Montreal Canadiens vs New York Islanders prediction for this NHL game on Saturday, October 19th at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this NHL matchup.

Montreal Canadiens Betting Preview

The Montreal Canadiens are 2-3-0 this year after they lost to Los Angeles by a score of 3-2 in their last game. Montreal led 1-0 early in the first period, but they couldn’t find the back of the net in the rest of the game for the loss. The Canadiens were outshot by a total of 32-27, won 59.3% of the face-offs, and went 0-5 on the power play in the game. Montreal got their lone goal from Barron, while Montembeault stopped 28 out of 31 shots in the loss.

Prior to that defeat, Montreal lost to Pittsburgh, defeated Ottawa, and lost to Boston. The Canadiens have scored 2.60 goals per game and they have allowed 3.40 goals against per game, while also going 18.2% on the power play and 93.8% on the penalty kill this season. Cole Caufield has led Montreal with four goals, one assist, and 17 shots on goal, while Sam Montembeault is 2-2-0 with a 2.29 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage this year.

New York Islanders Betting Preview

The New York Islanders are 1-1-2 this season after they lost to St. Louis in overtime by a score of 1-0 in their last game. New York was able to generate quite a few shots on goal, but they couldn’t find a goal in the entire game. The Islanders outshot St. Louis by a total of 34-30, won 53.3% of the face-offs, and went 0-2 on the power play in the game. New York was led by Dobson, who had six shots on goal, and Nelson, who had five shots on goal, while Sorokin stopped 29 out of 30 shots in the loss.

Prior to that overtime loss, New York defeated Colorado by a score of 6-2, but they lost to Dallas and Utah prior to that. New York has scored 2.50 goals per game and they have allowed 2.75 goals against per game, while also going 10% on the power play and 71.4% on the penalty kill this season. Brock Nelson and Anthony Duclair have led New York with three points each, while Ilya Sorokin is 1-0-1 with a 1.48 goals against average and .953 save percentage this year.

Montreal Canadiens vs New York Islanders Prediction

New York comes into this matchup after getting shutout 1-0 in their last game, so they will look to find some offense in this game. The Islanders have played very strong defense in their first four games and Sorokin has looked very good in his two starts, but scoring 2.50 goals per game is not ideal. Montreal has also had some very good goaltending from Montembeault, but even with that good goaltending, they have still allowed four goals or more in three of their last four games. I don’t love either offense in this game and with the goalies playing very well, I am taking the under here.

David Racey's Pick: Under 6
