The NHL action returns with a 9-game slate today, and here you can get the NHL Picks for Tuesday 3/18/2025.

Calgary Flames vs New York Rangers Prediction 3/18/25 NHL Picks

Flames at Rangers at 7 PM ET

After their latest game, a 6-2 loss to Toronto, the Calgary Flames’ record stands at 30-25-11 for the season. They equalized the score at one goal late in the first period, but then surrendered five consecutive goals, leading to their defeat. The Flames were outshot 29-26, achieved a face-off win rate of 28.8%, and were unsuccessful on all four of their power play chances. Goals came from Andersson and Bahl, while Wolf stopped 21 of the 26 shots he faced during the game.

This season, the New York Rangers have a record of 33-29-6 after suffering a 3-1 defeat against Edmonton in their most recent game. They managed to tie the score at one during the second period, but allowed two goals in the third period, leading to their loss. The Rangers were outshot by Edmonton, with a total of 23 shots to their 22, won 48.9% of face-offs, and were unsuccessful on all three power-play attempts. Cuylle was responsible for scoring the Rangers’ only goal, while Shesterkin recorded 20 saves from 23 shots.

The Pick:

The Calgary Flames are in contention for a playoff berth in the Western Conference, but they have faced some difficulties lately. Their performance on the road has not been strong this year, with an average of just 2.55 goals per game, one of the lowest figures in the NHL. Notably, they have scored two goals or fewer in seven out of their last nine games, suggesting that this trend may continue. I advise taking the Under.

Detroit Red Wings vs Washington Capitals Prediction 3/18/25 NHL Picks

Red Wings at Capitals at 7 PM ET

The Detroit Red Wings aim to build on their recent 3-0 victory against the Vegas Golden Knights, seeking to enhance their record to 32-29-6 for the season. Lucas Raymond leads the team with 69 points, comprising 23 goals and 46 assists. Alex DeBrincat follows with 58 points, including 31 goals and 27 assists, while Dylan Larkin has accumulated 59 points with 27 goals. Moritz Seider contributes 38 points, primarily through 31 assists. In goal, Cam Talbot holds a record of 17-15-3, with a GAA of 2.96 and a save percentage of .901. Alex Lyon has an 11-8-1 record, a GAA of 2.77, and a save percentage of .900 this season. Additionally, Petr Mrazek has a record of 2-1, boasting a GAA of 2.01 and a save percentage of .920.

The Washington Capitals approach this game with the intention of extending their recent success, having secured a 5-1 win over San Jose, which brings their overall record to 44-15-8. Dylan Strome leads the team with 65 points, featuring 21 goals and a team-high 44 assists. Alex Ovechkin contributes 55 points, including 34 goals and 21 assists, while Connor McMichael adds 51 points with 23 goals and 28 assists. In net, Logan Thompson has an impressive record of 29-4-5, with a GAA of 2.32 and a save percentage of .916, while Charlie Lindgren has a record of 15-11-3, with a GAA of 2.65 and a save percentage of .899 this season.

The Pick:

The Red Wings are among the teams still contending, yet they are experiencing a downturn at a critical moment. At this juncture, it is challenging to support them in any capacity, particularly given that the home team has enjoyed considerable success throughout the season. I favor Washington in this matchup.

New York Islanders vs Pittsburgh Penguins Prediction 3/18/25 NHL Picks

Islanders at Penguins at 7 PM ET

The New York Islanders faced a defeat against the Oilers but secured a victory over the Panthers. Currently, the Islanders are averaging 2.68 goals per game and converting 11.5 percent of their power play chances. Anders Lee is the team’s leading scorer with 25 goals, while Bo Horvat contributes with 23 assists, and Noah Dobson has recorded 165 shots on goal. In terms of goaltending, Semyon Varlamov has conceded 29 goals from 262 shots, whereas Ilya Sorokin has allowed 131 goals from 1,398 shots faced.

The Pittsburgh Penguins achieved victories against the Blues and the Devils. They are currently averaging 2.91 goals per game and converting 24.3 percent of their power play opportunities. Rickard Rakell tops the team with 31 goals, Sidney Crosby has provided 50 assists, and Erik Karlsson has amassed 165 shots on goal. In goal, Tristan Jarry has allowed 78 goals from 725 shots, while Alex Nedeljkovic has given up 100 goals from 919 shots faced.

The Pick:

When faced with a balanced matchup, I lean towards the team that is in superior form, particularly given their home advantage. The home side has emerged victorious in five of the last six meetings between the Islanders and the Penguins. I predict the Penguins will achieve their fifth straight win.

Ottawa Senators vs Montreal Canadiens Prediction 3/18/25 NHL Picks

Senators at Canadiens at 7 PM ET

The Ottawa Senators triumphed over the Bruins and the Maple Leafs. They are currently averaging 2.94 goals per game and successfully converting 23.7 percent of their power play opportunities. Brady Tkachuk leads the team with 27 goals, Tim Stutzle has tallied 48 assists, and Thomas Chabot has taken 151 shots on goal. On the goaltending front, Linus Ullmark has surrendered 85 goals on 957 shots, while Anton Forsberg has given up 59 goals on 567 shots faced.

The Montreal Canadiens suffered a defeat against the Kraken but managed to beat the Panthers. They are averaging 2.95 goals per game and achieving a power play success rate of 21.9 percent. Cole Caufield leads the team with 33 goals, Nick Suzuki has tallied 49 assists, and Mike Matheson has recorded 124 shots on goal. In terms of goaltending statistics, Cayden Primeau has allowed 41 goals from 250 shots, while Sam Montembeault has permitted 130 goals from 1,317 shots faced.

The Pick:

The Senators have suffered 16 of their 25 losses during away games. This season, the Canadiens have won both matches against the Senators, with a total score of 9-3. Given that both teams are in strong form, the odds appear to favor the home team, presenting a valuable opportunity. I  am backing the Canadiens at the more favorable odds this Tuesday night.

Anaheim Ducks vs Dallas Stars Prediction 3/18/25 NHL Picks

Ducks at Stars at 8 PM ET

The Anaheim Ducks’ record stands at 29-31-7 this year, following a 7-2 loss to St. Louis in their latest game. They briefly cut the deficit to 3-1 in the second period but ultimately surrendered four of the last five goals, resulting in the defeat. The Ducks were outshot 26 to 25, achieved a 50% win rate in face-offs, and were unsuccessful on all four of their power play attempts. Goals were netted by Gauthier and Nesterenko, while Dostal allowed five goals on only 14 shots taken.

This season, the Dallas Stars have a record of 42-21-3, having recently lost to Colorado in overtime with a final score of 4-3. The team found themselves down 3-1 after the second period but rallied to score two goals late in the third period, only to lose in overtime. The Stars were outshot by Colorado, with a total of 35 shots against their 22, won 43.6% of face-offs, and did not score on their only power play attempt. Bourque, Duchene, and Robertson each contributed a goal, while Oettinger recorded 31 saves from 35 shots.

The Pick:

This season, the Stars boast a home record of 24-7-1, while the Ducks have a road record of 13-16-5. Anaheim has lost five out of their last seven games and continues to rank among the lowest-scoring teams in the NHL. They recently faced a heavy defeat on the road against St. Louis, yet they have won both encounters against the Stars this year. This scenario appears favorable for Dallas to rebound and exact some revenge, as they excel at home and the Ducks are currently struggling. I suggest betting on the Stars at -1.5.

St. Louis Blues vs Nashville Predators Prediction 3/18/25 NHL Picks

Blues at Predators at 8 PM ET

After completing a six-game road trip that resulted in three victories against the Kings, Ducks, and Wild, the St. Louis Blues have returned home. In their first game back, they delivered an impressive 7-2 win over the Ducks. Following their match in Nashville, the Blues will enjoy a four-game homestand. Presently, they are positioned 5th in the Central Division standings with 73 points, which is 15 points ahead of the Predators and 25 points behind the top-ranked Jets. The team is averaging 2.91 goals per game this season, placing them 18th, while their goals allowed per game stands at 2.96, also ranking 18th.

Early in March, the Nashville Predators achieved a four-game winning streak, triumphing over the Bruins, Kraken, Blackhawks, and Sharks. This victory against San Jose set the stage for a three-game road trip, during which they suffered losses to the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings. The Predators are now preparing to play their next three games at home. They currently sit in 7th place in the Central Division standings with 58 points. The team averages 2.58 goals scored per game, ranking 31st, while they concede an average of 3.24 goals per game, which places them 25th.

The Pick:

While I cannot predict the winner for Tuesday’s match, I anticipate a high-scoring game. In fact, nine out of the last ten head-to-head encounters have exceeded the total goals, with the last six consistently doing so. Additionally, seven of St. Louis’ most recent ten games have also gone Over. Although the Predators possess one of the least effective offenses in the NHL, I am inclined to support the historical trend of these matchups and expect a minimum of six goals in this contest.

Seattle Kraken vs Chicago Blackhawks Prediction 3/18/25 NHL Picks

Kraken at Blackhawks at 8:30 PM ET

The Seattle Kraken are set to compete in this game with the intention of recovering from a 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets, resulting in a current record of 29-34-5 for the season. Jared McCann stands out with 45 points, which include 16 goals and 29 assists. Brandon Montour has contributed 38 points, featuring 16 goals and 22 assists. Jaden Schwartz has recorded 39 points, with 19 goals and 20 assists, while Chandler Stephenson leads the team with 47 points, including a notable 36 assists.

The Chicago Blackhawks approach this game aiming to bounce back from a 6-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks, which has left their season record at 20-38-9. Connor Bedard is the team’s leading scorer with 52 points, consisting of 17 goals and a team-high 35 assists. Ryan Donato contributes significantly with 51 points, including 23 goals. Teuvo Teravainen also matches Bedard’s point total with 52 points, featuring 15 goals and 37 assists. In net, Arvid Soderblom has an 8-16-7 record, a 3.14 GAA, and a .901 save percentage, while Spencer Knight has recorded 2 wins and 2 losses, with a GAA of 2.24 and a .928 save percentage during his time with the team.

The Pick:

I believe that the Seattle Kraken should not be favored at this price against any opponent. Although the Chicago Blackhawks are currently struggling, it is important to highlight that all their recent games have been played away from home, where they have performed significantly worse this season. Conversely, the Blackhawks have shown strong performance at home, and historically, the home team has had the upper hand in this matchup. I will take Chicago with the favorable odds at home in this instance.

Utah Hockey Club vs Edmonton Oilers Prediction 3/18/25 NHL Picks

Hockey Club at Oilers at 9 PM ET

The Utah Hockey Club has exhibited inconsistent performance recently, having lost four out of their last eight games. They commenced a three-game road trip with a defeat against the Seattle Kraken, followed by a victory over the Vancouver Canucks. After their match in Edmonton, the team will return home for a series of three games. Currently, the Hockey Club ranks sixth in the Central Division standings with 71 points, trailing the Blues by two points and the first-place Jets by 27 points. On average, the team scores 2.82 goals per game, placing them 21st in the league, while they allow 2.91 goals per game, ranking 14th.

The Edmonton Oilers encountered their toughest stretch of the season in February, suffering five consecutive defeats, which constituted their longest losing streak to date. Nevertheless, they managed to bounce back with five wins in their next eight contests and are presently on a two-game winning streak. Following a four-game road trip that resulted in losses to the Sabres and Devils, alongside victories over the Islanders and Rangers, the Oilers have returned to their home arena. They currently sit second in the Pacific Division standings with 82 points, just four points behind the leading Golden Knights. This season, the Oilers average 3.19 goals per game, ranking them 9th, while they allow 2.88 goals per game, placing them 13th.

The Pick:

This season, both teams have recorded more games with Under outcomes than Over. Utah’s record stands at 25-36-6, while Edmonton has an Over/Under record of 29-37-1. Nevertheless, the Oilers have shown improved scoring efficiency at home recently, with four of their last five matches yielding six or more goals. Similarly, six of Utah’s last seven away games have also featured at least six goals. I anticipate a minimum of six goals in this matchup, and if they total exactly six, we will at least break even. I recommend betting on the Over.

Winnipeg Jets vs Vancouver Canucks Prediction 3/18/25 NHL Picks

Jets at Canucks at 10 PM ET

The Winnipeg Jets triumphed over the Kraken and the Stars in recent matchups. They are currently averaging 3.47 goals per game and successfully converting 31 percent of their power play opportunities. Kyle Connor stands out as the top scorer for Winnipeg with 36 goals, while Josh Morrissey has tallied 42 assists, and Nikolaj Ehlers has achieved 152 shots on goal. On the defensive end, Connor Hellebuyck has surrendered 102 goals from 1,393 shots, and Eric Comrie has given up 40 goals on 467 shots faced.

The Vancouver Canucks achieved a win against the Blackhawks but were defeated by the Hockey Club. They are currently averaging 2.73 goals per game and have a power play conversion rate of 22.3 percent. Jake DeBrusk is the top scorer for Vancouver with 23 goals, followed by Quinn Hughes with 47 assists, and Conor Garland, who has recorded 146 shots on goal. In goal, Thatcher Demko has given up 45 goals on 412 shots, while Kevin Lankinen has allowed 108 goals on 1,125 shots faced.

The Pick:

In the past few weeks, the Canucks have struggled, as their defense has allowed three or more goals in six of their last nine contests. The Jets, on the other hand, have been successful against the Canucks, winning six of their last seven matchups, which includes a significant 6-1 victory earlier this January. Over the last two games, the Jets have outscored the Canucks by a margin of 10-3. Furthermore, the Jets are currently the second-most profitable team in the NHL, and the betting line appears attractive. I will be backing the Jets on Tuesday.

Oliver Zivic's Pick: Blues at Predators Over 5.5
