In this article we will formulate a Capitals vs Panthers prediction for this NHL game on Thursday, November 13th at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this NHL matchup.

Washington Capitals Betting Preview

The Washington Capitals are 8-7-1 this season after they defeated Carolina by a score of 4-1 in their last game. Washington had their lead cut to 2-1 in the second period, but they scored twice in the third to seal the victory. The Capitals were out shot by a total of 31-28, won 46% of the face-offs, and went 1-5 on the power play in the game. Washington got goals from Duhaime, Ovechkin, Strome, and Chychrun, while Thompson stopped 30 out of 31 shots, which was a .968 save percentage.

Prior to that game, Washington lost to the Lightning by a score of 3-2 and the Penguins by a score of 5-3. The Capitals have lost six of their last eight games and they are currently tied for last in the Metro standings with 17 points. Washington has scored 2.88 goals per game and they have allowed 2.38 goals against per game, while also going 15.4% on the power play and 74.5% on the penalty kill this season. Tom Wilson has led Washington with nine goals and seven assists, while Dylan Strome has added five goals and 10 assists. The projected starting goalie for the Capitals is Logan Thompson, who is 7-4-0 with a 1.56 goals against average and a .934 save percentage this season.

Florida Panthers Betting Preview

The Florida Panthers are 8-7-1 this year after they defeated Vegas by a score of 3-2 in their last game. Florida was out scored 2-1 in the third period, but they were able to make enough saves late in the game for the win. The Panthers were out shot by a total of 32-20, won 53.1% of the face-offs, and went 1-3 on the power play in the game. Florida got goals from Boqvist, Marchand, and Reinhart, while Bobrovsky stopped 30 out of 32 shots, which was a .938 save percentage.

Prior to that game, Florida lost to the Sharks by a score of 3-1, but did beat the Kings by a score of 5-2 before that. The Panthers have alternated wins and losses over their last 10 games and they are currently sixth in the Atlantic standings with 17 points. Florida has scored 2.63 goals per game and they have allowed 2.94 goals against per game, while also going 18.3% on the power play and 77.2% on the penalty kill this season. Brad Marchand has led Florida with 11 goals and seven assists, while Anton Lundell has added four goals and seven assists. The projected starting goalie for Florida is Sergei Bobrovsky, who is 8-4-0 with a 2.68 goals against average and an .893 save percentage this year.

Capitals vs Panthers Prediction

Both of these teams come into this matchup with the same record and they are both towards the bottom of their division standings, so this is a big game for each side. The Capitals are 4-3-1 on the road this year, while the Panthers are 5-1-1 at home. Florida has alternated wins and losses over their last 10 games and if that trend continues, they are due for a loss here. I still don’t know what to think of the Panthers, as they are dealing with injuries and can’t string wins together, but I know both teams are great on defense, so I will take the under here.

David Racey's Pick: Under 5.5
