In this article we will formulate a Canadiens vs Red Wings prediction for this NHL game on Thursday, October 9th at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this NHL matchup.

Montreal Canadiens Betting Preview

The Montreal Canadiens are 0-1-0 this year after they lost to Toronto by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday. Montreal led 2-1 in the second period, but they allowed the last four goals and failed to score over the final 38 minutes in the loss. The Canadiens out shot Toronto by a total of 31-27, went 0-2 on the power play, and won 39% of the face-offs. Montreal also recorded 28 hits and 13 blocked shots in the game. The Canadiens got goals from Bolduc and Kapanen, while Anderson led the team with five hits in the win. Montreal started Montembeault between the pipes and he stopped 22 out of 25 shots, which was an .880 save percentage.

Last year, Montreal went 40-31-11 and they finished with 91 points, which was fifth in the Atlantic Division and tied for seventh in the Eastern Conference. The Canadiens did qualify for the playoffs, but lost in five games against Washington. Montreal has a solid team once again this year, but I do think their defense and goaltending could cause some issues.

Detroit Red Wings Betting Preview

The Detroit Red Wings went 39-35-8 this season and they finished with 86 points, which was sixth in the Atlantic Division and 10th in the Eastern Conference. Detroit played pretty well over the first few months of the season, but they were awful in March and blew a great chance of making the playoffs. The Red Wings started the 24-25 season by losing three of their first four games, including a 6-3 loss to Pittsburgh to open the year. Detroit did end the season by winning five of their last eight games, but it was too little too late. Last year, the Wings scored 235 goals, which was ranked 22nd in the NHL, while they allowed 259 goals against, which was ranked 21st.

In the preseason, Detroit went 5-3 overall and they won each of their last three games. The Red Wings got wins against Chicago (twice), Buffalo, and Toronto (twice), but they lost to Pittsburgh (twice) and Buffalo. The Red Wings had another disappointing season last year and they have been one of the worst NHL teams over the last decade. Detroit will be led by Larkin, Kane, Raymond, and Seider, while Gibson and Talbot will be the goalie options to start the year.

Canadiens vs Red Wings Prediction

Montreal has a tough schedule to start the season, as they played in Toronto last night and will be on a back to back here. The Canadiens allowed five goals in that game and will have their backup goalie in net here. Detroit isn’t expected to make the postseason this year, as they hardly made any upgrades from last year, but they still have some decent pieces and should be able to take advantage of Montreal on a back to back. Take the Wings here.
