In this article we will formulate a Blackhawks vs Panthers prediction for this NHL game on Tuesday, October 7th at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this NHL matchup.

Chicago Blackhawks Betting Preview

The Chicago Blackhawks were 25-46-11 last season and they finished with 61 points, which was dead last in the Central Division and second to last in the Western Conference. Chicago was never really competitive last season and started the year by losing 19 of their first 27 games. The Blackhawks opened the season in 2024 with a 5-2 loss against Utah on the road. Last year, Chicago scored 224 goals, which was 26th in the NHL, while they allowed 292 goals against, which was ranked 31st.

In the preseason, Chicago went 2-4 and their offense really struggled to generate goals. The Blackhawks picked up wins against St. Louis and Minnesota, but lost to Detroit (twice), Minnesota, and St. Louis, while being outscored 16-13 in six games. This year, Chicago will try to be better around Connor Bedard, who could be a generational player, but doesn’t have a ton of help around him. The Blackhawks have Spencer Knight and Arvid Soderblom in goal to start this season.

Florida Panthers Betting Preview

The Florida Panthers went 47-31-4 last year and they finished with 98 points, which was third in the Atlantic Division and fifth in the Eastern Conference. Florida had plenty of ups and downs in the season, but they were elite on home ice. The Panthers did not play well at the end of the regular season, as they lost seven of their last ten games, but they caught fire in the playoffs. Florida defeated Tampa Bay in five games, Toronto in seven games, Carolina in five games, and Edmonton in six games to win the Stanley Cup. Florida scored 246 goals last year, which was ranked 15th in the NHL, while they allowed 223 goals against, which was ranked 7th.

In the preseason, Florida went 3-4 overall, but did win three of their last five games. The Panthers got wins against Carolina (twice) and Tampa Bay, but did lose to Tampa Bay (twice) and Nashville (twice). Florida will try to get their third straight Stanley Cup and they have plenty of talent on their team, but they are already dealing with a huge injury to Barkov. The Panthers will start the year with Bobrovsky and Tarasov in net.

Why the Panthers will beat the Blackhawks

The Panthers have won each of their last eight games against the Blackhawks at Amerant Bank Arena.

The Blackhawks have failed to cover the puck line in five of their last six road openers as underdogs.

Total Goals Facts

Seven of the Panthers’ last eight home openers have gone OVER the total goals line.
Each of the Blackhawks’ last five games against Atlantic Division opponents have gone OVER the total goals line.
The ‘Over 1.5 Goals Period 3′ market has hit in each of the Panthers’ last nine games as favorites.
The ‘Over 2.5 Goals Period 1′ market has hit in three of the Blackhawks’ last four road games against Atlantic Division opponents.

Matchup/League Facts

The Florida Panthers have recorded the equal-most wins when tied after Period 2 last season (13).
The Florida Panthers held the NHL’s best record in games that went to shootout last season (6-0).
The Chicago Blackhawks ranked 7th in the league in power play percentage last season (24.87%).
The Chicago Blackhawks ranked 32nd in the league for shots per game last season (24.5).

Blackhawks vs Panthers Prediction

Florida comes into this season after winning the Stanley Cup in each of the last two season’s, so they should have a ton of confidence coming into this game. The Panthers have a lot more talent than Chicago does and they are at home, where they were great last year. The Blackhawks will always be exciting with Bedard on the ice, but they lack talent around him and the defense/goaltending is expected to be a problem. I know there will be plenty of distractions around this Florida team, but they should still win this game by at least two goals here.

David Racey's Pick: Panthers -1.5
