  • The Canucks recent form and recent play performance
  • Recent Betting trends and streaks involving Edmonton
  • Recent Betting trends and streaks involving Vancouver
  • Recent betting trends in games played between Edmonton and Vancouver
  • A summary that ties it all together and produces a favorable betting outcome for Today’s Game between Edmonton and Vancouver

Oilers Looked Great in Round One

The Edmonton Oilers defeated the LA Kings in five games in the first round, and they will look to continue that momentum here. Edmonton won games one, three, four, and five by scores of 7-4, 6-1, 1-0, and 4-3, but did lose game two by a score of 5-4. The Oilers were clearly the better team in the series and they won both games on the road. Edmonton was one of the highest scoring teams in the NHL during the regular season and they scored at least four goals in four of their five games in the first round.

Edmonton finished second in the Pacific division, but they lost four of their last five regular season games. The Oilers are scoring 4.40 goals per game, while going 45% on the power play and 100% on the penalty kill in the postseason. Connor McDavid has led Edmonton with one goal, 11 assists, and 14 shots on goal, while Leon Draisaitl has added five goals, five assists, and 23 shots on goal in the playoffs. Edmonton’s special teams were fantastic in the opening round and the power play is a major key for their success.

Canucks Barely Survived the First Round

The Vancouver Canucks were able to win their opening round series against Nashville in six games, but they were not the better team in the series. Vancouver won games one, three, four, and six by scores of 4-2, 2-1, 4-3, and 1-0, but lost games two and five by scores of 4-1 and 2-1. The Canucks really struggled to get many shots on goal in the series and they scored two goals or fewer in four of the six games. Vancouver did play three separate goalies in the first round, as Demko and DeSmith suffered injuries.

Vancouver finished first in the Pacific division, but they lost six of their last eleven games in the regular season. The Canucks didn’t finish the regular season with much momentum, but they did escape the first round. Vancouver is scoring 2.17 goals per game, while going 15.4% on the power play and 90.9% on the penalty kill. Brock Boeser and J.T. Miller have led Vancouver with six points, while Quinn Hughes has added five points in the postseason.

Starting Goalies

The projected starting goalie for Vancouver is Arturs Silvos, who has a 1.70 goals against average and a .938 save percentage. Silvos was a critical piece of Vancouver advancing from the first round. The projected starting goalie for Edmonton is Stuart Skinner, who is 4-1-0 with a 2.59 goals against average and a .910 save percentage. Skinner was 36-16-5 in the regular season with a 2.62 goals against average and a .905 save percentage.

Edmonton Oilers vs Vancouver Canucks Prediction

Edmonton comes into this game full of positive momentum, as they were able to dominate the LA Kings in their opening series. Edmonton did lose to Vancouver towards the end of the regular season, which helped determine home ice for this matchup, but I don’t like how the Canucks played against Nashville. Vancouver was lucky that Nashville struggled to finish their scoring chances, but that won’t be the case with the high scoring Oilers here. My Edmonton Oilers vs Vancouver Canucks prediction is for the Oilers to win game one and steal home ice.
