It’s a nice slate of NHL games on Saturday with 12 games taking place, and that means there are plenty of winners. Let’s take a look at a free pick on each of the games.
Tampa Bay Lightning -189 at Ottawa Senators +170 Total: 6
Even on the road, this is too good of a price for the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Senators sit with a 3-7 record and Matt Murray who is expected to be in goal has an 0-2 record. The Lightning are averaging three goals per game compared to the Senators who are only averaging 2.5. Back the Lightning on the puck line.
Play: Lightning -1.5
Carolina Hurricanes +105 at Florida Panthers -125 Total: 6
The Hurricanes and Panthers have combined for only one loss this season, and this might be the game of the night. These are both elite offenses, but both defenses are also strong. Both teams know about the others offense, and that will lead to an increased focus on defense. I expect offense will be an issue for both teams, and the under will cash.
Play: Under
Minnesota Wild -110 at Pittsburgh Penguins -110 Total: 5.5
The better record is with the Minnesota Wild, but if you look on paper, the Penguins actually are probably better. Minnesota is giving up 3.3 goals per game and their lack of defense is going to let them down. Back the Penguins on the money line.
Play: Penguins ML -110
Philadelphia Flyers +130 at Washington Capitals -149 Total: 5.5
The Capitals have lost two games in a row and the defense has been a big issue. The Flyers are averaging 3.3 goals per game, and even on the road, they should find plenty of success in this game. Back the Flyers on the money line.
Play: Flyers ML +130
Colorado Avalanche -161 at Columbus Blue Jackets +140 Total: 5.5
The Colorado Avalanche might be the most disappointing team in all of the NHL. The Avs offense is good, but their defense is a big issue giving up 3.56 goals per game. There is no way I am laying this type of number on the road with a team that has that bad of defense. Look for the Blue Jackets offense to attack Colorado and pull the upset.
Play: Blue Jackets ML +140
New York Islanders -115 at Winnipeg Jets -105 Total: 6
The New York Islanders and Winnipeg Jets play different styles of games. The Islanders have a strong defense while the Jets have a strong offense. At home this season though the Jets have a perfect record, and they are going to continue their success in this game. Look for the Islanders to continue to struggle to score, and the Jets will win this game.
Play: Jets ML -105
Detroit Red Wings -110 at Buffalo Sabres -110 Total: 5.5
The Red Wings and Sabres both have offenses that aren’t great, and that is going to lead to a lower-scoring game. The Red Wings are averaging 2.7 goals while the Sabres are averaging 2.9 goals. Look for a lower scoring game and the under to cash.
Play: Under
Boston Bruins +110 at Toronto Maple Leafs -130 Total: 5.5
I don't love the way the Maple Leafs offense has looked this season, and they are going to struggle to score again in this game. The Bruins are giving up only 2.63 goals per game and the lack of scoring by the Maple Leafs will be the difference in this game. Back the Bruins on the money line.
Play: Bruins ML +110
Vegas Golden Knights -115 at Montreal Canadiens -105 Total: 5.5
Vegas and Montreal have both had disappointing starts to the season. Even though Vegas has had issues, they did look impressive in their last game scoring five goals. I expect that strong offense will continue in this one, and the visiting team will come away with the victory.
Play: Golden Knights ML -115
Seattle Kraken at Arizona Coyotes
I don’t trust either of these offenses, especially the Coyotes who are averaging only 1.3 goals per game. Even though both of these defenses haven’t been great, I expect it’s going to be the offense that both struggle. Back the under.
Play: Under
New Jersey Devils at San Jose Sharks
There are a lot better games on the board to bet. Overall the Devils offense has been an issue averaging 2.6 goals per game, and their lack of scoring is going to keep this game lower scoring. Back the under.
Play: Under
New York Rangers at Calgary Flames
Even though these two teams have identical records, the Flames are the much better team. The Flames offense is ranked seventh in terms of goals per game, compared to the Rangers who are averaging only 2.4 goals per game. The lack of scoring by the Rangers is going to lead to the Flames winning this game.
Play: Flames ML
