After two games on Tuesday, the NHL season really heats up on Wednesday with five games taking place. Let’s take a look at a breakdown for each of the games, and give you a winner to make your night a profitable one.
Montreal Canadiens +139 at Toronto Maple Leafs -167 Total: 5.5
The Maple Leafs are going to try and get some revenge in this game after the Montreal Canadiens eliminated them last season. One big problem for the Maple Leafs in this game is they will be without Austin Matthews in this game. Last season on the road goal scoring was an issue averaging only 2.8 goals per game. Without Matthews, I also expect the Maple Leafs are going to struggle to score and this will be a duel between the goaltenders. Back the under 5.5
Play: Under 5.5 Goals
New York Rangers +110 at Washington Capitals -130 Total: 6
The New York Rangers were busy this offseason bringing in players like Ryan Reaves, Patrik Nemeth and Sammy Blais to help improve the team. The Rangers offense was strong last season averaging 3.14 goals per game, while the defense gave up 2.77 goals per game. The Washington Capitals bring back a lot of last year’s team including Alexander Ovechkin. He is dealing with injuries but it sounds like he could go. Even if he does play though, he isn’t going to be 100 percent, and I expect the Caps will struggle to score. Back the Rangers to pull the upset.
Play: Rangers ML +110
Winnipeg Jets -150 at Anaheim Ducks +130 Total: 5.5
The Anaheim Ducks were one of the most disappointing teams during the 2020 season finishing with a 17-30-9 record. The Jets will be missing forward Mark Scheifele who is still dealing with a suspension from last season, and that is a big loss for them. Connor Hellebuyck will get the start in goal for the Jets, historically the team has let him face way too many shots. The good news for the Jets though, is the Ducks offense wasn’t great last year, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be better this year. Back the Jets on the money line.
Play: Jets ML -150
Chicago Blackhawks +175 at Colorado Avalanche -201 Total: 6
The Chicago Blackhawks are coming off another disappointing 2020 season, but they brought in Marc Andre-Fleury who they hope can shure up a defense that wasn’t great in 2020. The Blackhawks also brought in Seth Jones who will play a big role if the defense is better. For the Avs, they are coming off an impressive 2020 season, but they are without Nathan MacKinnon who tested positive for COVID. Without MacKinnon and the Blackhawks having Andre-Fleury this is a perfect chance to take the underdog.
Play: Chicago ML +175
Vancouver Canucks +155 at Edmonton Oilers -175 Total: 6.5
These two teams faced each other twice to end the preseason and the Oilers were able to win each of those games 3-2. These are two teams who can score, especially the Oilers, but I don’t expect a whole lot more scoring in this game. Look for a 3-2 type of game and for the under to cash.
Play: Under 6.5 Goals
