The Vegas Golden Knights face the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, June 24th at the Bell Centre for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Semifinals.
The Vegas Golden Knights are facing elimination on the road on Thursday as they currently trail the series three games to two. Vegas has lost three of the last four games of this series and has really struggled offensively as of late. Mark Stone, who led the team in points and assists in the regular season, has been held off the scorer's sheet in the series thus far. The Golden Knights looked as if they were on their way to the Cup Final after the first game of this series, a dominant 4-1 win at home. The Canadiens have not let up and are now the favorites to win the Cup according to MoneyPuck.com.
Montreal has relied on its fantastic goaltender in Carey Price and its staunch defense. The Canadiens were overlooked by many heading into the postseason, but Montreal's strategic play has it one win away from the Final. Montreal has the top penalty kill in the playoffs this season, not allowing its opposition much on the powerplay. The Canadiens have found situational offense from veterans and its youth core as well, which have all been a recipe for success in this series. Montreal will now host Game 6 and will look to end this series in front of its home crowd. There is no doubt that the pressure is mostly on the Golden Knights who face elimination, but the Habs are going to want to avoid a trip back to Vegas at all costs.
This has been an entertaining series to watch if you are a hockey fan. Gritty, strategic, and overall smart hockey from the Montreal Canadiens have them in a great position. I think we see another tight contest between these two teams and with the Golden Knights' season on the line, I like the under in this contest. I expect both teams to defend well and both goaltenders to be strong in net also.
