NHL Games on Saturday May 1st

It’s the biggest schedule of the year on the ice, with a full 15-game schedule awaiting us on Saturday! Let’s take a look and get some winners from each game on the card.

Buffalo Sabres +310 at Boston Bruins -370 O/U: 5.5

1:00 PM EST

Pick: Boston -1.5; I gave Buffalo the benefit of the doubt in the last game against Boston and it blew up right in my face as the Sabres played like the Sabres have for the majority of the season. Boston’s the better team, the team that needs to continue piling up the wins and potential momentum if they’re going to carry it into the postseason. Simply put, the Sabres are in over their heads here. Give me the Bruins on the puck line.

Tampa Bay Lightning -309 at Detroit Red Wings +264 O/U: 5.5

3:00 PM EST

Pick: Detroit +264; The Lightning are by far the better team here and Detroit is missing some key players, but realistically, this seems like a spot for the Lightning to rest some key guys of their own and to give the backup goaltender some action. The Red Wings have a tendency of catching bettors by surprise when you least expect it, but I think we could expect a potential upset here. I’ll put a small wager on the Red Wings here.

Ottawa Senators +175 at Montreal Canadiens -220 O/U: 6

7:00 PM EST

Pick: Under 6; Realistically, I want no part of either of these teams, with Ottawa pretty much out of the playoff race and Montreal continuing to be given these outrageous prices by oddsmakers. Instead, I’m going to side with the under as I see Ottawa’s offensive issues continuing and for Montreal to be slightly sluggish on the second half of the back-to-back. Expect a lower-scoring affair here.

Vancouver Canucks +245 at Toronto Maple Leafs -290 O/U: 6

7:00 PM EST

Pick: Toronto -1.5; Call it a homer pick if you must, but I think Vancouver’s best shot at stealing a win was the last matchup as Toronto had just clinched the division and was ripe for the picking after resting so many payers. However, Vancouver stumbled and you have to wonder if the sizeable number of games ahead is going to be all a formality and Vancouver will simply fade off into the sunset for the Canucks. I just think the last stretch now is all about building momentum for Toronto so I’ll bank on the Leafs to record a huge win here.

New York Rangers +110 at New York Islanders -130 O/U: 5.5

7:00 PM EST

Pick: NY Islanders -130; The Rangers need the win more, but it’ll have to come later as the Islanders have simply dominated the Rangers in the last few meetings, winning three straight and four of the last five meetings, including the last pair by a combined score of 10-1. The Islanders have also been one of the best home teams in the league this season so I see no reason to stray from that here. Give me the Islanders here.

New Jersey Devils +125 at Philadelphia Flyers -145 O/U: 6

7:00 PM EST

Pick: New Jersey Devils +125; The Devils are another team missing pieces from their lineup, but they’ve played much better on the road this season and the Flyers just look like they’re running out of gas and coming to grips with the fact that they’re arguably this season’s biggest disappointment comparing to the year prior. I just think the Flyers are in for a letdown here, so give me the Devils.

Pittsburgh Penguins -105 at Washington Capitals -115 O/U: 6

7:00 PM EST

Pick: Over 6; This is arguably one of the best games on the entire board on Saturday, as you have two teams with huge playoff expectations in the coming weeks. With that said, this would be huge for the confidence on both sides if they could get a win but I don’t expect either side to give up easily. While that may sound like a low-scoring battle is in store, I’m expecting the opposite as these are two teams that can light the lamp like no one’s business. I think we could see a 4-3 game at the very least, so give me the over here.

Columbus Blue Jackets -251 at Carolina Hurricanes -300 O/U: 5.5

7:00 PM EST

Pick: Carolina -1.5; The plus money with Columbus is a nice look, but realistically, the Blue Jackets are that heavy of a dog for a reason. The Blue Jackets just find ways to lose hockey games more often than not and I don’t see any reason to back them with any sort of confidence. Carolina’s the better team here and is another one of the league’s best that needs to build confidence with the playoffs around the corner. Give me Carolina in a romp.

Florida Panthers -149 at Chicago Blackhawks +130 O/U: 6

8:00 PM EST

Pick: Florida -149; The last meeting was extremely close, but I still think we’re seeing the light fade on the Blackhawks’ playoff hopes as Chicago’s just running out of gas and Florida is picking up steam with a tough road through the division playoffs on the horizon. I think the Panthers need to get as much confidence going as possible, so I’ll take the reasonable price with Florida in this one.

Dallas Stars -110 at Nashville Predators -110 O/U: 5

8:00 PM EST

Pick: Under 5; This is a low total, as low as you’ll usually find, but I think it’s that low for a reason as this just has the feels of a 2-1 game or at worst I think we get a push with the total at 5. Neither team is an offensive juggernaut by any means and I think we’ll see both take a cautious approach as this is pretty much for all of the marbles as these two are fighting for the last playoff spot in the division. Give me the under in a war.

San Jose Sharks +245 at Colorado Avalanche -295 O/U: 6

8:00 PM EST

Pick: Colorado -1.5’ The Sharks just looked in over their heads on Friday against the Avs and I think that the Sharks are in trouble against any team that isn’t named Arizona. Colorado is the better team once again and I just think that the Sharks can’t keep up here, so give me the Avalanche on the puck line in this one.

St. Louis Blues +125 at Minnesota Wild =145 O/U: 5.5

8:00 PM EST

Pick: St. Louis +125; I think the Wild are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs, especially at home. However, we’re FINALLY seeing the sense of urgency from the Blues that had been lacking all along and thankfully for St. Louis, it’s all coming together at the right time. The blues need these wins and rest assured they won’t come easy, but in the end I think St. Louis takes another from Minnesota at plus money here.

Calgary Flames +105 at Edmonton Oilers -125 O/U: 6

10:00 PM EST

Pick: Edmonton -125; This is a rivalry of rivalries in the NHL and the battle of Alberta can get heated at times, but simply put, the Flames are running out of steam and the Oilers are just better than their provincial rivals, especially with guys like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl leading the charge. I think we have a war here, but in the end, getting Edmonton with a cheap price at home has to be the play.

Vegas Golden Knights -200 at Arizona Coyotes +170 O/U: 5.5

10:00 PM

Pick: Vegas -1.5; The Coyotes are in dire need of wins as they’re running out of time to make up ground in the division race, but the problem is that they’re taking on the hottest team in the NHL right now in Vegas. The knock on the Golden Knights before was that they’d be their best at home, but now, they’re at their best regardless of where they play. I think the Golden Knights flex some muscle once again and get the job done here on the puck line.

Los Angeles Kings -125 at Anaheim Ducks +105 O/U: 5.5

10:00 PM EST

Pick: Under.5.5; I just think with so little at stake between two teams that are going to miss out on the playoffs, we’re going to see a lack of motivation to really get up for this game. These guys, despite being professionals, are simply going to show up just to fulfill contract obligations and if they win well that’s just a bonus. In the end I see a low-scoring matchup here, so give me the under.

Good luck!!
