The Dallas Stars and the Detroit Red Wings meet in NHL action from the Little Caesars Arena on Thursday night.
The Dallas Stars will look to build on their 5-2 win over the Red Wings last time out. Joe Pavelski leads the Stars in scoring with 42 points including a team-high 19 goals along with 23 assists while Roope Hintz has 37 points with 14 goals and 23 assists. Jason Robertson’s got 14 goals and 21 assists while John Klingberg has a team-high 24 assists this season. Jamie Benn, Denis Gurianov and Miro Heiskanen each have double-digit assist totals this season. As a team, Dallas is averaging 2.8 goals on 29.4 shots with a 23.9% success rate on the power play while allowing 2.4 goals on 27 shots with a 79.2% success rate on the PK this season.
The Detroit Red Wings will look to rebound from their loss to Dallas last time out. Jakub Vrana leads the Red Wings with 27 points including a team-high 12 goals and 15 assists while Dylan Larkin and Filip Hronek each have 23 points with Larkin logging 9 goals and 14 assists while Larkin has a team-high 21 assists. Adam Erne and Robby Fabbri each have double-digit goals this season. As a team, Detroit is averaging 2.2 goals on 27.5 shots with an 11.1% conversion rate on the power play while allowing 3.1 goals on 31 shots with a 77% success rate on the PK this season.
Dallas is 5-0 in their last 5 games as a favorite and 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win while the over is 2-0-2 in their last 4 games following a win. Detroit is 30-85 in their last 115 games overall and 13-39 in their last 52 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 6-1-3 in their last 10 games as a home underdog. The over is 7-3-3 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams.
I get the case that could be made for a home dog on most nights, but realistically, the Red Wings aren’t going anywhere in a month when the playoffs are going on. Dallas, despite their shortcomings this season and how much I’ve ragged on them, Dallas is still in a playoff position and have a chance to make things interesting down the stretch if they can keep up the solid play. It’s not a great price, but I’ll lay it and play it with the Stars here.
