The San Jose Sharks and the Vegas Golden Knights meet in NHL action from the T-Mobile Arena on Monday night.
The San Jose Sharks will look to rebound from a 5-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild in their last matchup. Evander Kane leads the Sharks in scoring with 36 points including a team-high 17 goals and 19 assists while Tomas Hertl has 28 points with 13 goals and 15 assists and Brent Burns has 26 points with a team-high 20 assists. Logan Couture also has 26 points with 14 goals and 12 assists while Kevin Labanc and Timo Meier each have double-digit assist totals and 25 points this season. As a team, San Jose is averaging 2.6 goals on 30.1 shots with a 16.4% success rate on the power play while allowing 3.3 goals on 31.4 shots against with an 80.9% success rate on the PK this season.
The Vegas Golden Knights will be out to build on a 5-2 win over Anaheim from Sunday’s matchup. Mark Stone leads the Golden Knights in scoring with 50 points including 15 goals and a team-high 35 assists while Max Pacioretty has 43 points with a team-high 22 goals, 21 assists and 160 shots on goal. Shea Theodore has 34 points with 28 assists while Jonathan Marchessault, William Karlsson, Alex Tuch and Chandler Stephenson all have double-digit goal and assist marks this season. As a team, Vegas is averaging 3.3 goals on 32.4 shots per game with a 17.1% conversion rate on the power play while allowing 2.2 goals on 27.2 shots against with an 84.7% success rate killing off penalties this season.
San Jose is 0-5 in their last 5 games overall and 2-6 in their last 8 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 Monday games. Vegas is 38-16 in their last 54 home games and 53-23 in their last 76 games overall while the under is 4-1-1 in their last 6 games playing on no rest. The under is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
I think you could make a case for both sides of the total in this one, as I could easily see a game with 5 goals and I could see another with 7+. With that said, more often than not between these two this season, we’ve seen games that come in under the number as it’s not always about the defense, but more about the offense (usually San Jose’s) not showing up. I think another grind-it-out affair could be on the cards here, so give me the under.
