The St. Louis Blues and the Arizona Coyotes meet in NHL action from the Gila River Arena on Saturday night.
The St. Louis Blues will look to rebound from a 4-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche in their last matchup. David Perron leads the Blues in scoring with 41 points including 13 goals and a team-high 28 assists while Ryan O’Reilly has 39 points with a team-high 17 goals and 22 apples. Brayden Schenn, Jordan Kyrou and Mike Hoffman all have double-digit goals and assists this season while Torey Krug also has 22 assists for the Blues this year. As a team, St. Louis is averaging 2.9 goals on 30 shots with an 18.5% success rate on the power play while allowing 3.1 goals on 29.9 shots with a 76.2% success rate on the PK this season.
The Arizona Coyotes will look to bounce back from a 5-2 loss to the Wild in their last outing. Phil Kessel leads the Coyotes in scoring with 34 points including a team-high 16 goals and 18 assists while Conor Garland has 31 points with 10 goals and a team-high 21 assists. Clayton Keller and Jakob Chychrun each have 30 points with double-digit goals and assists and Nick Schmaltz has 27 points with 10 goals and 17 assists this season. As a team, Arizona is averaging 2.6 goals on 26.4 shots with a 19.6% success rate on the power play while allowing 3.1 goals on 31.2 shots with an 82.1% success rate on the penalty kill this season.
St. Louis is 13-5 in their last 18 games as a road favorite and 3-8 in their last 11 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record. Arizona is 4-1 in their last 5 home games and 6-1 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 games as a home underdog. St. Louis is 12-4 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams in Arizona.
I get the case that can be made for both sides here, as the Coyotes have some value as a home dog and St. Louis seems to play better on the road. With that said, I just think that the Blues need to turn it on if they’re going to actually try to make a playoff push and it just would feel strange if the Blues took that much of a nosedive and missed out on the playoffs. This seems like the perfect storm, on the road, against an Arizona team that’s lost 5 straight. I’ll back the Blues on the road in this one.
Chris’s Pick St. Louis -130
