The Los Angeles Kings and the Colorado Avalanche meet in NHL action from the Ball Arena on Friday night.
The Los Angeles Kings will look to rebound from a 6-2 loss to Vegas in their last matchup. Anze Kopitar leads the Kings in scoring with 43 points including a team-high 34 assists while Drew Doughty has 30 points with 22 assists in defense for the Kings. Alex Iafallo, Adrian Kempe and Dustin Brown all have double-digit goal and assist tallies this season with Brown leading the Kings in goal scoring with 16 goals on the year. as a team, Los Angeles is averaging 2.7 goals on 29.8 shots with a 20.9% success rate on the power play while allowing 2.9 goals on 31.3 shots against with an 84.3% success rate on the penalty kill this season.
The Colorado Avalanche will be out to pick up another win at home after emerging with a 4-3 road win over St. Louis last time out. Nathan MacKinnon leads the Avs in scoring with 53 points including 17 goals and a team-high 36 assists while Mikko Rantanen has 52 points split between a team-high 26 goals and 26 assists. Gabriel Landeskog also has 16 goals and 25 assists while Sam Girard and Cale Makar each have 31 points with a combined 53 assists between the two defensemen. As a team, Colorado is averaging 3.6 goals on 35 shots per game with a 23.4% success rate on the PP while allowing 2.3 goals against on 25.4 shots with an 83.7% success rate on the PK this season.
Los Angeles is 22-49 in their last 71 road games and 3-9 in their last 12 games overall while the over is 5-0-1 in their last 6 games as an underdog. Colorado is 13-3 in their last 16 games following a win and 19-7 in their last 26 home games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win. The home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I get the case that could be made for the Kings as this is a ton of plus money in all fairness and we’ve cashed on massive dogs recently like the Detroit Red Wings because all it takes is one bounce to turn a game on its head. However, the Kings haven’t been great on the road and haven’t had a lot of luck this season in Colorado, being outscored 6-1 in the two combined meetings. Colorado is one of the best home teams in the NHL and you get the feeling this is where they start to turn it on with the playoffs a month away. I’ll take the Avs on the puck line in this one.
