The Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings meet in NHL action from Little Caesars Arena on Thursday night.
The Chicago Blackhawks will look to build on their 4-3 overtime win over the Columbus Blue Jackets in their last matchup. Patrick Kane leads the Blackhawks in scoring with 54 points including 14 goals and a team-high 40 assists while Alex DeBrincat has 41 points with a team-high 21 goals and 20 assists. Dominik Kubalik also has 29 points with 14 goals and 15 assists and Pius Suter has 19 points with 11 goals this season. As a team, Chicago is averaging 2.8 goals on 29.4 shots with a 24.4% success rate on the power play while allowing 3.1 goals on 33.3 shots against with a 73.3% success rate killing off penalties this season.
The Detroit Red Wings will look to build on back-to-back wins after their 3-1 triumph over Carolina last time out. Jakub Vrana comes over from Washington and now leads the Red Wings with 25 points this season while Dylan Larkin has 22 points with 8 goals and 14 assists and Filip Hronek also has 22 points with a team-high 20 assists this season. Robby Fabbri and Adam Erne each have double-digit goal tallies for the Red Wings this season. As a team, Detroit is averaging 2.2 goals on 27.6 shots with a 12% success rate on the power play while allowing 3.2 goals on 31.3 shots against with a 76.2% success rate on the PK this season.
Chicago is 2-5 in their last 7 road games and 1-4 in their last 5 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Detroit is 4-1 in their last 5 home games and 5-15 in their last 20 games following a win while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog. The favorite is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I get why the Blackhawks would be favored here, and if the Red Wings had played this game close to their win over Carolina, I could understand the letdown theory. However, the Red Wings appear to be playing with some confidence now, and I personally think they won their trade with the Capitals in getting Jakub Vrana and Richard Panik in the lineup. I just think there’s too much value to be had with the Red Wings here, so I’ll take my shot with Detroit and the plus money in this spot.
