The New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils meet in NHL action from the Prudential Center on Tuesday night.
The New York Rangers will look to rebound from a 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders in their last game. Artemi Panarin leads the Rangers in scoring with 42 points including 12 goals and 30 assists while Ryan Strome and Adam Fox each have 37 points with Strome logging 12 goals and 25 assists while Fox has a team-high 32 assists this season. Pavel Buchnevich and Mika Zibanejad each have double-digit goal and assist tallies this season while Chris Kreider has a team-high 17 goals this season. As a team, New York is averaging 3.3 goals on 29.5 shots per game with a 19.9% success rate on the PP while allowing 2.7 goals on 29.1 shots with an 84.4% success rate killing off penalties this season.
The New Jersey Devils will try to rebound from a 5-2 loss to the Penguins in their last matchup. Pavel Zacha and Jesper Bratt each have a team-high 25 points this season with Zacha logging 10 goals and 15 assists while Bratt has a team-high 20 assists this season. Ty Smith and Jack Hughes each have 21 points with Smith logging 19 assists while Hughes has 9 goals and 12 apples. Myles Wood also has a team-high 14 goals this season. As a team, New Jersey is averaging 2.6 goals on 29.9 shots with a 14.2% success rate on the PP while allowing 3.2 goals on 31.3 shots against with a 71.7% success rate on the PK this season.
New York is 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record and 2-5 in their last 7 Tuesday games while the under is 7-2-2 in their last 11 road games. New Jersey is 17-36 in their last 53 home games and 1-5 in their last 6 games overall while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 home games. The road team is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I get the value of the home dog like New Jersey, but the problem is that the Devils have not played well on home ice to put it nicely this season. And on top of that, trading away two of your best players in Travis Zajac and Kyle Palmieri is only going to hurt in the grand scheme of things. The road team’s won all four meetings this season, and both of New York’s wins in New Jersey were by a combined margin of 12-4, and that was with Palmieri and Zajac in the lineup for the Devils. I’ll back the Rangers on the -1.5 puck line here.
