The Buffalo Sabres and the Boston Bruins meet in NHL action from the TD Garden on Tuesday night.
The Buffalo Sabres will look to build on their 5-3 win over the Flyers in their last matchup. Sam Reinhart leads the Sabres in scoring with 26 points including a team-high 14 goals and 12 assists while Victor Olofsson has 24 points with 11 goals and 13 assists this season. Jack Eichel has 18 points with a team-high 16 assists while Rasmus Dahlin has 14 assists this season. As a team, Buffalo is averaging 2-3 goals on 27.7 points per game with a 22.2% success rate on the power play while allowing 3.5 goals on 32.3 shots with a 78.3% success rate on the PK this year.
The Boston Bruins will look to rebound from an 8-1 loss to Washington in their last matchup. Brad Marchand leads the Bruins in scoring with 48 points including team-highs of 19 goals and 29 assists while Patrice Bergeron’s on 35 points with 16 goals and 19 assists and David Pastrnak has 32 points split between 16 goals and 16 assists. David Krejci has 21 assists this season while Charlie McAvoy and Craig Smith each have 22 points with a combined 32 assists between the pair. As a team, Boston is averaging 2.8 goals on 32.1 shots per game with a 23.3% success rate on the PP while allowing 2.5 goals on 27.6 shots against per game with an 87.1% kill rate on the PK this season.
Buffalo is 14-37 in their last 51 games overall and 15-52 in their last 67 road games while the under is 4-1-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record. Boston is 38-16 in their last 54 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400 and 4-1 in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest while the under is 12-3-1 in their last 16 games overall. Buffalo is 6-20 in the last 26 meetings between these two teams and 0-4 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams in Boston.
I get why the plus money with Buffalo could be worth taking a punt on as the Sabres have won games here and there, but the Sabres also traded one of their best players in Taylor Hall to Boston of all teams so if the cards weren’t stacked against the Sabres already, the loss/addition of Hall depending on what side you’re on, makes the gap even wider. I see no other option than to back the Bruins on the -1.5 puck line here.
