The Boston Bruins and the Washington Capitals meet in NHL action from the Capital One Arena on Thursday night.
The Boston Bruins will look to build on a 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers in their last matchup. Brad Marchand leads the Bruins in scoring with 45 points including team-highs of 18 goals and 27 assists while Patrice Bergeron has 33 points with 15 goals, 18 assists and a team-high 124 shots on goal and David Pastrnak has 32 points with 16 goals and 16 assists with 115 shots on goal. David Krejci also has 21 assists this season. As a team, Boston is averaging 2.8 goals on 32.1 shots per game with a 24.1% success rate on the PP while allowing 2.5 goals on 27.6 shots against with an 88.7% success rate on the PK this season.
The Washington Capitals will look to rebound from a 1-0 loss to the New York Islanders in their last matchup. Nicklas Backstrom leads the Caps in scoring with 39 points including 13 goals and a team-high 26 assists while Alex Ovechkin has 35 points with a team-high 19 goals and 136 shots on goal this season. John Carlson, T.J. Oshie and Jakub Vrana each have double-digit goals and assists this season. As a team, Washington is averaging 3.4 goals per game on 27.8 shots with a 24.5% success rate on the power play while allowing 3 goals on 29 shots with an 82.6% success rate killing off penalties this season.
Boston is 0-4 in their last 4 games following a win and 2-5 in their last 7 games as an underdog while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 road games. Washington is 15-2 in their last 17 games as a favorite and 7-1 in their last 8 home games while the over is 15-6 in their last 21 games as a home favorite. Boston is 16-37 in the last 53 meetings between these two teams.
I think you could make a case for either side here, as there’s a lot of value on both sides. However, while plus money with Boston is a rarity, Washington’s getting a cheap price when they’ve been pretty much money in the favorite role over the last couple of months. The Caps have also been a thorn in the side of the Bruins for a while now, and I think this game ends up being no different. Give me the Capitals in this one.
