The Colorado Avalanche and the Minnesota Wild meet in NHL action from the Xcel Energy Center on Wednesday night.
The Colorado Avalanche will look to build on their 5-4 win over the Wild last time out. Nathan MacKinnon leads the Avs in scoring with 45 points including a team-high 31 assists while Mikko Rantanen has 44 points with a team-high 21 goals and 23 assists. Gabriel Landeskog, Sam Girard and Cale Makar each have double-digit assists as well this season for Colorado. As a team, Colorado is averaging 3.6 goals on 35.4 shots per game with a 23.4% success rate on the power play while allowing 2.2 goals on 25.2 shots per game against with an 87.1% success rate on the PP this season.
The Minnesota Wild will look to rebound from their loss to the Avalanche last time out. Kirill Kaprizov leads the Wild in scoring with 31 points including a team-high 14 goals along with 17 assists while Joel Greenway has a team-high 18 assists and Mats Zuccarello has 22 points with 16 assists this season. As a team, Minnesota is averaging 2.9 goals on 29.2 shots per game with a 10.8% success rate on the power play while allowing 2.5 goals on 30.6 shots with an 86.2% success rate on the PK this season.
Colorado is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win and 6-2 in their last 8 road games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games as a road favorite. Minnesota is 11-1 in their last 12 home games and 17-8 in their last 25 games overall while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 home games. Colorado is 6-13 in the last 19 meetings between these two teams in Minnesota.
I get why you’d want to take the Avs here as one of the hottest teams in the league right now. However, while the Wild have cooled off lately, they’re still playing good hockey in their own right and have been a tough out on home ice all season long. There’s just a lot of value with the home dog here, so I’ll take my chances with Minnesota here.
