The Arizona Coyotes and the Los Angeles Kings meet in NHL action from the Staples Center on Wednesday night.
The Arizona Coyotes will look to build on a 5-2 win over the Kings in their last matchup. Conor Garland leads the Coyotes in scoring with 30 points including 10 goals and 20 assists while Clayton Keller has 29 points with 18 assists and Phil Kessel has a team-high 15 goals this season. Jakob Chychrun and Christian Dvorak each have 12 goals this season respectively. As a team, Arizona is averaging 2.6 goals on 26.3 shots per game with an 18% success rate on the power play while allowing 3 goals on 31.2 shots against per game with an 82.8% success rate on the PK this season.
The Los Angeles Kings will be out to bounce back from their loss to the Coyotes in their last matchup. Anze Kopitar leads the Kings in scoring with 40 points including a team-high 32 goals while Drew Doughty has 28 points with 20 assists. Dustin Brown leads the Kings with 15 goals on the year while Adrian Kempe has 12 goals as part of his 21-point tally this season. As a team, Los Angeles is averaging 2.7 goals per game on 29.6 shots with a 22% success rate on the power play while allowing 2.8 goals on 31.3 shots with an 86.4% success rate on the PK this season.
Arizona is 6-1 in their last 7 games overall and 4-1 in their last 5 road games while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 games overall. Los Angeles is 1-6 in their last 7 games overall and 1-4 in their last 5 home games while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 games as a home favorite. The under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
You could make a case for either side here as Arizona’s playing the better hockey but Los Angeles is at home and that’s where the Kings tend to do their best work. However, these two teams have a history of playing low-scoring games, and it’s not necessarily a case of good defense being played, it’s all about not so good offense and I just don’t think that we get a ton of goals in this game either. I could see this being a 3-2 game whichever way you slice it, so give me the under here.
