The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Calgary Flames meet in NHL action from the Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday night.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will look to build on a 2-1 win over Winnipeg last time out. Mitch Marner leads the Leafs in scoring with 46 points with a team-high 33 assists while Auston Matthews has 42 points with a team-high 24 goals with 18 assists. John Tavares has 28 points with 10 goals and 18 assists and Morgan Rielly and William Nylander each have 26 points with Rielly logging 23 assists while Nylander has 13 goals and 13 apples. Zach Hyman has 24 points with 12 goals and 12 assists. Jason Spezza’s got 20 points with 12 assists. As a team, Toronto is averaging 3.3 goals on 30.8 shots with a 24.8% success rate on the power play while allowing 2.6 goals on 28 shots with a 77.2% success rate on the PK this season.
The Calgary Flames will look to rebound from a 3-2 loss to Edmonton last time out. Elias Lindholm has 31 points with a team-high 22 assists while Matthew Tkachuk has 28 points with 10 goals and 18 assists. Johnny Gaudreau has 27 points with a team-high 13 goals along with 14 assists while Sean Monahan has 23 points with 16 assists. Mikael Backlund and Andrew Mangiapane each have 19 points as well this season. As a team, Calgary is averaging 2.6 goals on 29.7 shots with a 20.2% success rate on the power play while allowing 3 goals on 29.8 shots with an 80% success rate on the PK this season.
Toronto is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall and 12-4 in their last 16 road games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games as a favorite. Calgary is 1-6 in their last 7 games overall and 4-12 in their last 16 games as an underdog while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 home games. Toronto is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Calgary.
I get the case that could be made for Calgary in the underdog role at home, with the plus money that comes with it. However, Toronto is the better team playing the better hockey right now and I’m still a bit suspicious about Calgary’s goaltending if we’re being honest. I think Toronto gets the job done here and I’ll lay the juice in this one.
