The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Boston Bruins meet in NHL action from the TD Garden on Saturday afternoon.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will look to build on their 4-1 win over the Bruins in their last head-to-head matchup. Sidney Crosby leads the Pens in scoring with 40 points including 14 goals and a team-high 26 assists while Jake Guentzel has 35 points with 15 goals and 20 assists, leading the team in the goal market. Bryan Rust has 28 points split between 14 goals and 14 assists while Kris Letang also has 28 points with 22 assists this season. Evgeni Malkin and Kasperi Kapanen each have 20+ points with double-digit assists this season. As a team, Pittsburgh is averaging 3.2 goals on 29.4 shots with a 20.6% success rate on the power play while allowing 2.6 goals on 29.9 shots against with a 78.6% success rate on the PK this season.
The Boston Bruins will try to get some revenge after their loss to the Penguins last time out. Brad Marchand leads the Bruins with 37 points including team-highs of 14 goals and 23 assists while Patrice Bergeron’s on 28 points with 10 goals and 18 assists. Pittsburgh is 4-1 in their last 5 road games and 6-0 in their last 6 Saturday games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. Boston is 2-5 in their last 7 Saturday games and 4-1 in their last 5 games after scoring two or less in their previous game while the under is 11-2-1 in their last 14 games as a favorite. Pittsburgh is 2-14 in the last 16 meetings between the two teams in Boston.
I get the case that could be made for either side here as Pittsburgh’s on a roll and Boston’s been at their best at home in recent years. Instead, I’m going to lean towards the under in this one as I think this game is going to end up being a playoff-type atmosphere and a tough, hard-hitting matchup between two of the NHL’s elite. Give me the under here.
