The Philadelphia Flyers and the Buffalo Sabres meet in NHL action from the KeyBank Center on Wednesday night.
The Philadelphia Flyers will look to build on their 4-3 win over the Sabres last time out. James van Riemsdyk leads the Flyers in scoring with 31 points coming on 13 goals and 18 assists while Claude Giroux and Joel Farabee each have 27 points with Giroux posting 18 assists while Farabee has a team-high 14 goals. Jakub Voracek and Sean Couturier each have 26 points with Voracek logging 21 assists and Couturier logging 10 goals and 16 assists this season. Kevin Hayes also has 11 goals and 13 apples for the Flyers this season. As a team, Philadelphia is averaging 3.1 goals on 29.1 shots with a 20.7% success rate on the power play while allowing 3.6 goals on 29 shots with a 72.8% success rate on the PK this season.
The Buffalo Sabres will set a new record for most consecutive losses if they lose this game, tying the NHL-record with their 18th straight loss last time out. Sam Reinhart leads the Sabres in scoring with 21 points including a team-high 12 goals while Victor Olofsson also has 21 points with 9 goals and 12 assists. Taylor Hall and Jack Eichel each have 18 points with a team-high 16 assists while Rasmus Dahlin also has 12 points with 10 assists for Buffalo this season. As a team, Buffalo is averaging 2 goals per game on 27.9 shots with a 23.3% success rate on the power play while giving up 3.5 goals on 31.7 shots with a 77.9% success rate on the PK this season.
Philadelphia is 37-15 in their last 52 games as a favorite and 19-8 in their last 27 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 games following a win. Buffalo is 14-41 in their last 55 games overall and 8-20 in their last 28 home games while the under is 8-3-1 in their last 12 games as a home underdog. The over is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Buffalo.
I’m not trying to get behind either of these teams right now if we’re being honest as Philadelphia shouldn’t be this heavily favored, but the Sabres are giving absolutely no value to the plus money no matter how much we’re getting. Instead, I’m going to back the over. It sounds odd between two teams that have scoring issues the way these two teams do, but the two went over on Monday and I think the shoddy goaltending shows through here again and the total once again finishes over the number.
