The Carolina Hurricanes and the Chicago Blackhawks meet in NHL action from the United Center on Tuesday night.
The Carolina Hurricanes will look to build off of their 4-3 win over Tampa Bay last time out. Sebastian Aho leads the Hurricanes in scoring with 33 points including a team-high 15 goals with 18 assists while Martin Necas has 28 points with 9 goals and 19 assists and Dougie Hamilton has 27 points with a team-high 24 assists and 105 shots on goal. Vincent Trocheck and Jordan Staal each have double-digit goal and assist tallies this season while Nino Niederreiter has 14 goals on the year. As a team, Carolina is averaging 3.3 goals on 31.6 shots with a 30% success rate on the power play while allowing 2.5 goals on 29 shots per game with an 82.4% success rate killing off PK’s this season.
The Chicago Blackhawks will be out to bounce back from a 3-2 loss to Nashville in their last matchup. Patrick Kane leads the Hawks in scoring with 48 points including 13 goals and a team-high 35 assists, as many assists as Alex DeBrincat has points in 2nd with 25 points including a team-high 18 goals and 17 assists. Dominik Kubalik has 11 goals with 15 apples while Mattias Janmark and Pius Suter each have double-digit goal marks as well this season. As a team, Chicago is averaging 2.9 goals per game on 29.3 shots with a 27.8% success rate on the PP while allowing 3.1 goals on 34.1 shots with a 73.6% success rate on the penalty kill this season.
Carolina is 6-1 in their last 7 road games and 11-3 in their last 14 games overall while the under is 5-1-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record. Chicago is 2-6 in their last 8 games overall and 13-33 in their last 46 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the under is 5-0-1 in their last 6 games overall. The Hurricanes are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams and 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between the two teams in Chicago.
I get the case that you could make for both as Carolina’s been rock solid pretty much all year long while Chicago looks like they may be starting to turn a corner and get back on track. However, the Hurricanes are just the better team side by side and have won 7 of the last 8 meetings with the Blackhawks including 4 of the last 5 in Chicago. The price is a bit steep compared to what I normally back, but the Hurricanes still have value here.
