The Colorado Avalanche and the Arizona Coyotes meet in NHL action from the Gila River Arena on Monday night.
The Colorado Avalanche will look to build on their 6-0 win over the Wild last time out. Mikko Rantanen leads the Avalanche in scoring with 35 points including a team-high 17 goals and 18 assists while Nathan MacKinnon’s got 31 points with 9 goals and a team-high 22 assists. Nazem Kadri and Gabriel Landeskog each have 24 points with 9 goals and 15 assists apiece this season. As a team, Colorado is averaging 3.3 goals on 34.9 shots per game with a 23.5% success rate on the PP while allowing 2.3 goals on 24.7 shots against with an 87.1% success rate defending the penalty kill this season.
The Arizona Coyotes will be out to build on their 5-1 win over Anaheim last time out. Conor Garland leads the ‘Yotes in scoring with 25 points including 9 goals and a team-high 16 assists while Clayton Keller has 23 points and a team-high 10 goals this season. Jakob Chychrun has 21 points with 8 goals and 13 assists while Phil Kessel and Christian Dvorak each have 9 goals as well this season. As a team, Arizona is averaging 2.3 goals on 25.6 shots per game with a 17.6% conversion percentage on the power play while allowing 3 goals on 31.4 shots against per game with an 83.5% success rate on the PK this season.
Colorado is 6-0 in their last 6 games overall and 4-1 in their last 5 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. Arizona is 1-5 in their last 6 games overall and 0-4 in their last 4 games as an underdog while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 home games. Colorado is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I get why the plus money is tempting with Arizona at home, but the Coyotes continue to be inconsistent to say the least and have a hard time really stringing wins together. On the other hand, this is a steep price for the Avs and the puck line is ruled out considering that three of the four meetings have been decided by one goal this season. Instead, I’ll back the Avs to win this one in regulation on the 3-way line to bring the price down to a much more reasonable number.
