The New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals meet in NHL action from the Capital One Arena on Friday night.
The New York Rangers will look to add to their 9-0 dismantling of the Philadelphia Flyers in their last matchup. Pavel Buchnevich leads the Rangers with 26 points coming on 10 goals and 16 assists while Artemi Panarin has 24 points with a team-high 17 assists and Ryan Strome has 22 points with 10 goals and 12 apples. Chris Kreider also has 20 points with a team-high 14 goals this season. As a team, New York is averaging 2.8 goals per game on 29.5 shots per game with a 14.1% conversion rate on the power play while allowing 2.8 goals per game and 28.7 shots per game with an 85.6% success rate on the penalty kill this season.
The Washington Capitals will be out to build on a 3-1 win over the Islanders in their last game. Nicklas Backstrom leads the Caps in scoring with 12 goals and 21 assists, both team-highs while John Carlson has 25 points with 19 assists. Alex Ovechkin also has a team-high 12 goals with 11 assists and a team-high 102 shots on goal this season. As a team, Washington is averaging 3.5 goals per game on 28.5 shots per game with a 26.1% conversion rate on the PP while allowing 3 goals on 29.7 shots against per game with an 81.6% success rate defending the penalty kill this season.
New York is 6-16 in their last 22 games as an underdog and 1-4 in their last 5 games as a road underdog while the over is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games following a win. Washington is 13-3 in their last 16 games overall and 4-1 in their last 5 home games while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games overall. New York is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings but just 1-6 in the last 7 meetings in Washington.
The plus money with the Rangers is tempting considering how New York dominated Philadelphia last time out, but realistically, it can happy anytime and we don’t normally see the Rangers blow teams out like that consistently. Washington’s been playing some of their best hockey of the year coming into this one and I think you could argue that the price here could and should be steeper. I’ll lay the juice with the Caps here.
