The Columbus Blue jackets and the Carolina Hurricanes meet in NHL action from the PNC Arena on Thursday night.
The Columbus Blue Jackets will look to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to the Dallas Stars last time out. Oliver Bjorkstrand leads the Blue Jackets in scoring with 23 points including 10 goals and 13 assists while Cam Atkinson has 21 points with a team-high 11 goals and Jack Roslovic has 19 points with a team-high 14 assists. As a team, Columbus is averaging 2.6 goals per game on 29 shots with a 16% conversion rate on the power play while allowing 3.2 goals per game on 31.2 shots per game with a 72.9% success rate on the PK this season.
The Carolina Hurricanes will look to bounce back from a 4-2 loss to Detroit last time out. Sebastian Aho leads the ‘Canes in scoring with 26 points including 11 goals and 15 assists while Vincent Trocheck has 24 points with a team-high 13 goals and 11 assists. Dougie Hamilton has 22 points with a team-high 19 assists while Jordan Staal and Andrei Svechnikov each have 22 points as well and Nino Niederreiter also has a team-high 13 goals as well this season. As a team, Carolina is averaging 3.4 goals per game on 31.4 shots per game with a league-best 31.8% success rate on the power play while allowing 2.5 goals per game on 29.1 shots against per game with an 82.8% success rate on the PK this season.
Columbus is 18-37 in their last 55 games overall and 1-5 in their last 6 road games while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record. Carolina is 4-0 in their last 4 home games and 19-7 in their last 26 games overall while the over is 5-1-2 in their last 8 games as a home favorite. The home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I get the allure of the plus money with Columbus, but realistically, the Jackets are just too inconsistent to trust on a long-term basis and in the short-term it’s hard to back them against the better teams in the league. I have a feeling the world is going to be on Carolina, but why wouldn’t they be? The Hurricanes have been lights out at home this season and have given us no reason to fade them in this role. I’ll back Carolina on the puck line here.
