The Arizona Coyotes and the Minnesota Wild meet in NHL action from Xcel Energy Center on Tuesday night.
The Arizona Coyotes will try to bounce back from a 4-1 loss to Minnesota in their last matchup. Conor Garland leads the Coyotes in scoring with 22 points coming on 8 goals and 14 assists while Clayton Keller is one assist behind with 8 goals and 13 assists this season. Phil Kessel and Christian Dvorak each have a team-high 9 assists as well for Arizona on the year. As a team, Arizona is averaging 2.5 goals per game on 25.5 shots per game with a 19.8% success rate on the power play while allowing 2.9 goals on 31.5 shots per game against with an 84% success rate on the PK.
The Minnesota Wild will look to build on their win over the Coyotes last time out. Kirill Kaprizov leads the Wild in scoring with 24 points coming on 10 goals and a team-high 14 assists, sharing the team lead in assists with Joel Greenway and Mats Zuccarello who each have 14 apples as well this season. Joel Eriksson Ek leads Minnesota in the goal-scoring department with 11 goals along with 5 assists this season. As a team, Minnesota is averaging 3.2 goals per game on 30.6 shots per game with a 7.5% success rate on the power play while allowing 2.5 goals per game on 28.9 shots against per contest with an 85.1% success rate on the PK this season.
Arizona is 2-6 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record and 8-22 in their last 30 road games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Minnesota is 7-0 in their last 7 home games and 4-0 in their last 4 games overall while the under is 13-3 in their last 16 Tuesday games. Arizona is 1-6 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
I get the case that could be made for both sides here, but realistically, Minnesota’s been the better team lately and have quietly been playing some of the more consistent hockey in the entire league. Arizona continues to be hit and miss and now the identity of being a solid defensive team is now gone from this Arizona team who just doesn’t really know what they are to begin with. I’ll back Minnesota on the puck line until the Coyotes figure things out.
