The New York Rangers and the Boston Bruins meet in NHL action from the TD Garden on Saturday afternoon.
The New York Rangers will look to rebound from a 4-0 loss to the Bruins in their last matchup. Pavel Buchnevich leads the Rangers in scoring with 20 points on the year, coming on 7 goals and 13 assists as Buchnevich is one of three Rangers with 13 apples this season, joined by Artemi Panarin and Adam Fox for the team lead in that category. Ryan Strome has 18 points with 9 goals and 9 assists while Chris Kreider has a team-high 13 goals this season. The Rangers are averaging 2.8 goals per game and 29.7 shots per game with a power play percentage of 16.1 % while allowing 2.8 GPG with 29.2 shots against per game and a penalty kill percentage of 87.2% this season.
The Boston Bruins will look to take out the Rangers again after their win over New York last time out. Brad Marchand leads Boston in scoring with 31 points coming on 12 goals and 19 assists, leading Boston alone at the top in assists while sharing the team lead in goals with David Pastrnak who also has 12 goals in just 17 games this season. Patrice Bergeron and Charlie McAvoy each have 14 assists apiece this season for the Bruins as well. The Bruins are averaging 2.8 GPG while cranking out 31.6 shots per game and owning a power-play percentage of 25% while allowing 2.3 goals per game on 26.3 shots per game with a penalty-kill percentage of 88.2%, all top-5 ranks in the NHL this season.
New York is 0-4 in their last 4 games as a road underdog and 0-4 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 3-1-2 in their last 6 road games. Boston is 7-3 in their last 10 home games and 11-5 in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 5-0-1 in their last 6 games overall. New York is 1-8 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams and 4-10 in the last 14 meetings between the two teams in Boston.
The plus money with the Rangers is worth a look considering that the Rangers haven’t played that badly as of late. However, Boston’s starting to pick up steam again and just put the boots to the Rangers last time out and I’m not sure that they don’t do it again here. Until I see signs of life from the Rangers in this matchup, I’ve gotta fade them so I’ll lay the -1.5 with Boston here.
