The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres meet in NHL action from KeyBank Center on Thursday night.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will look to build on their 4-2 win over the Rangers last time out. Sidney Crosby leads the Penguins in scoring with 24 points coming on 9 goals and 15 assists while Jake Guentzel’s on 22 points with 8 goals and 14 apples this season. Evgeni Malkin has 19 points with 13 assists and Bryan Rust has 18 points with 8 goals and 10 assists. Kris Letang and Kasperi Kapanen each have 17 points with Letang logging 12 assists while Kapanen has 7 goals with 10 assists. Teddy Blueger also has 13 points with 4 goals and 9 assists as well for the Penguins this season. Tristan Jarry has made 18 appearances this season, going 10-8 with a 3.05 GAA this season.
The Buffalo Sabres will look to bounce back from a 5-4 shootout loss to Philadelphia last time out. Sam Reinhart leads the Sabres in scoring with 19 points including a team-high 11 goals with 8 assists while Jack Eichel and Victor Olofsson each have 18 points with Eichel adding 16 assists while Olofsson has 7 goals with 11 apples this season. Taylor Hall has 16 points with 14 assists and Rasmus Dahlin’s on 11 points with 10 assists this season. Linus Ullmark leads the Sabres with 5 wins and 12 appearances with a 2.44 GAA but he continues to miss time with a lower body injury, leaving goaltending duties to Carter Hutton who has a 1-8 record with a 3.40 GAA this season.
Pittsburgh is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 6-15 in their last 21 road games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games as a road favorite. Buffalo is 0-6 in their last 6 home games and 7-24 in their last 31 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games as an underdog. Pittsburgh is 17-5 in the last 22 meetings between these two teams in Buffalo.
I get that the plus money with the Sabres is worth a look after the Sabres battled the Islanders last time out, but this is still a team in turmoil as trade rumors are all over the place and they’re all banged up as well. Pittsburgh is a team I’ve bashed left and right, but realistically, this is still one of the league’s best and bottom line is that Pittsburgh’s in a much better position than the Sbares right now. I’ll back Boston with the -1.5 handicap on the puck line here.
