The Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames meet in NHL action from the Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday night.
The Montreal Canadiens will look to build on their 5-1 win over Vancouver last time out. Jeff Petry leads the Habs in scoring with 24 points including 10 goals and 14 assists while Tyler Toffoli has 23 points with 15 goals and 8 assists. Jonathan Drouin and Nick Suzuki each have 17 points with a combined 27 assists between the two while Brendan Gallagh and Tomas Tatar each have 16 points with Gallagher logging 10 goals with 6 apples and Tatar chipping in 11 assists. Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Josh Anderson each have 14 points with Kotkaniemi logging 11 assists and Anderson chipped in 10 goals. Phillip Danault and Shea Weber each have 11 points with 16 assists combined between the two. Carey Price continues to see the bulk of the action in goal with 8 wins in 16 appearances and a 2.59 GAA while Jake Allen has a 4-5 record with a 2.31 GAA in 9 games played.
The Calgary Flames will look to rebound from a 4-3 loss to Ottawa last time out. Johnny Gaudreau and Elias Lindholm each have 23 poitns with Gaudreau lading the Flames with 11 goals and 12 assists while Lindholm has a team-high 17 assists. Matthew Tkachuk has 21 points with 7 goals and 14 assists while Sean Monahan has 18 points with 13 assists. Rasmus Andersson has 14 points with 11 assists and Mark Giordano and Andrew Mangiapane are each on 13 points with Giordano logging 10 assists while Mangiapane has 8 goals and 5 assists. Mikael Backlund and Dillon Dube each have 12 points as well for the Flames this season. Jacob Markstrom’s seen the bulk of the action in goal for Calgary, picking up 8 wins with a pair of shutouts and a 2.88 GAA while Rittich has 3 wins and a shutout with a 2.93 GAA in 11 appearances.
Montreal is 1-5 in their last 6 road games and 2-5 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 6-1-2 in their last 9 games against a team with a losing record. Calgary is 3-8 in their last 11 games overall and 9-3 in their last 12 games as a home favorite while the over is 5-0-2 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record. Montreal is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
I think a case could be made for both sides here, as Montreal is fresh off of their dominant win over Vancouver and have a lot of momentum, but Calgary’s rested and ready to go in this one. Instead, I’m going to side with the over here as I think Montreal’s momentum does carry over but I also think tied legs lead to goals from the Flames as well in this one.
