The Florida Panthers and the Columbus Blue Jackets meet in NHL action from the Nationwide Arena on Tuesday night.
The Florida Panthers will look to bounce back from a 4-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in their last matchup. Jonathan Huberdeau leads the Panthers in scoring with a team-high 10 goals and 19 assists for his 29 points while Aleksander Barkov has 27 points with 19 assists of his own. Patric Hornqvist has 20 points with 9 goals and 11 assists and Aaron Ekblad’s got 9 goals and 8 assists on the year. Keith Yandle and Carter Verhaeghe each have 16 points with Yandle logging 13 assists while Verhaeghe has his points split between 8 goals and 8 assists this season. MacKenzie Weegar and Frank Vatrano each have 11 points and Alex Wennberg and Anthony Duclair each have 10 points on the year as well. Sergei Bobrovsky and Chris Driedger each have made 12 starts for the Panthers this season, with Bobrovsky logging 8 wins with a 3.02 GAA while Driedger has a 2.40 GAA and 7 wins.
The Columbus Blue Jackets will look to rebound from a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Dallas Stars in their last game. Cam Atkinson leads Columbus in scoring with 10 goals and 9 assists for his team-leading 19 points while Oliver Bjorkstrand has 18 points with 7 goals and 11 apples. Boone Jenner’s got 15 points on 8 goals and 7 assists and Jack Roslovic has 14 points with 5 goals and 9 helpers. Patrik Laine and Seth Jones each have 13 points with Laine contributing 8 goals and 5 assists while Jones has 12 assists on the year. Joonas Korpisalo continues to see the majority of the appearances in goal for Columbus, logging 7 wins with a 3.15 GAA in 20 games played.
Florida is 7-2 in their last 9 road games and 35-17 in their last 52 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 5-1-1 in their last 7 road games. Columbus is 1-5 in their last 6 games as an underdog and 2-6 in their last 8 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600. Florida is 7-21 in the last 28 meetings between these two teams and 2-14 in the last 16 meetings in Columbus.
Both teams have been struggling with consistency as of late, but the difference for me here is that the wins are coming more frequently for Florida and the Panthers statistically are the better team on both ends of the ice with one of the league’s best offensive units and a pretty good defense as well. I just don’t think the Blue Jackets, even at home, have enough to keep pace with Columbus in this spot, so I’ll lay it and play it with Florida in this one.
