The Montreal Canadiens and the Vancouver Canucks meet in NHL action from Rogers Arena on Monday night.
The Montreal Canadiens will look to build on a 7-1 dismantling of the Winnipeg Jets last time out. Jeff Petry leads the Habs in scoring with 8 goals and a team-high 14 assists while Tyler Toffoli has 21 points with a team-high 15 goals and 6 assists. Nick Suzuki’s tallied 17 points with 5 goals and 12 apples and Brendan Gallagher and Jonathan Drouin each have 16 points with Gallagher registering 10 goals with 6 assists and Drouin chipping in 14 assists on the year. Tomas Tatar has 15 points with 5 goals and 10 apples and Josh Anderson has 13 points with 10 goals on the year as well. Carey Price has made the bulk of the starts in goal for Montreal, picking up 7 wins in 14 appearances while Jake Allen has a 4-5 record with a 2.31 GAA in 9 appearances for Montreal.
The Vancouver Canucks will be out to build on a 4-2 win over Toronto last time out. Brock Boeser leads the Canucks in scoring with 28 points including a team-high 13 goals and 15 assists while J.T. Miller has 24 points with 7 goals and 17 apples and Quinn Hughes has logged 22 points with a team-high 20 helpers this season. Elias Pettersson in right behind with 21 points split between 10 goals and 11 assists and Bo Horvat has 19 points with 11 goals and 8 assists. Tyler Myers has 13 points and Nils Hoglander has added 11 for Vancouver on the year. Thatcher Demko has made the majority of the starts in goal for Vancouver, going 7-10 with a shutout and a 2.87 GAA in 17 appearances while Braden Holtby has a 4-7 record with a 3.56 GAA in 11 appearances this season.
Montreal is 2-6 in their last 8 games overall and 0-4 in their last 4 road games while the under is 10-2-1 in their last 13 Monday games. Vancouver is 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record and 2-5 in their last 7 home games while the under is 8-3 in their last 11 home games. Montreal is 20-6 in the last 26 meetings between these two teams and 6-1 in the last 7 meetings between the two in Vancouver.
The Montreal Canadiens kept getting love from oddsmakers and whoopee. It finally paid off against the Jets. But how much have we made just blindly fading Montreal during that losing stretch? Enough that, and I can’t believe I’m saying this but here goes, I think Vancouver holds some value here. The Canucks just beat one of the league’s best in Toronto in back-to-back games and maybe that’s the spark to get the Canucks back on track. Thatcher Demko’s actually playing better in goal for Vancouver and the Canucks are playing with confidence again. It’s going to take more than one good game to turn me around on the Canadiens, and I’m not expecting it to be here. I’ll take Vancouver and the plus money in this spot.
