The Winnipeg Jets and the Montreal Canadiens meet in NHL action from the Bell Centre on Thursday night.
The Winnipeg Jets will look to build on a 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks in their last matchup. Mark Scheifele leads the Jets in scoring with 31 points coming on 11 goals and a team-high 20 assists while Blake Wheeler has 7 goals and 16 assists for his 23-point tally this season. Nik Ehlers and Kyle Connor each have 22 points split between 11 goals and 11 assists with Ehlers leading the Jets in shots on goal with 74 while Connor is not far behind with 70. Neal Pionk and Andrew Copp have 16 and 15 points respectively, while three more Jets follow with 12 points on the year. Connor Hellebuyck continues to see the majority of the action in goal for Winnipeg, going 10-6 with a 2.59 GAA this season.
The Montreal Canadiens will look to build some steam after a 3-1 win over Ottawa last time out. Jeff Petry leads the Habs in scoring with 20 points including a team-high 13 assists while Tyler Toffoli has 18 points with a team-high 13 goals and 5 assists in addition to 71 shots on goal. Nick Suzuki has 15 points with 5 goals and 10 assists while Jonathan Drouin’s got 13 points with 11 helpers and Brendan Gallagher and Josh Anderson each have 12 points with a combined 16 goals and Gallagher chipping in 70 shots on goal this season. Carey Price has seen the bulk of Montreal’s action in goal, logging 6 wins with a 2.96 GAA in 13 appearances while Jake Allen has a 4-4 record with a 2.12 GAA in his 8 starts this year.
Winnipeg is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall and 4-0 in their last 4 games as an underdog while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 games following a win. Montreal is 1-6 in their last 7 games as a favorite and 1-5 in their last 6 games overall while the under is 9-4-2 in their last 15 games following a win. The underdog is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I think a case could be made for either side here as Winnipeg’s had great success this year while the Canadiens are due to bounce back from the regression after their hot start. Instead, I’m going to back the over here. The goaltending has had its fair share of leaks on both sides as of late, and the offensive capabilities on both sides just leads me to a high-scoring affair here so I’ll take the over.
