The Ottawa Senators and the Calgary Flames meet in NHL action from the Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday night.
The Ottawa Senators will look to bounce back from a 3-1 loss to Montreal in their last outing. Drake Batherson leads Ottawa in scoring with 18 points split between 9 goals and 9 assists while Brady Tkachuk has 9 goals and 7 assists. Thomas Chabot has 15 points with a team-high 12 apples while Tim Stutzle has 14 points with 9 assists and Josh Norris has 13 points with 9 helpers as well. Matt Murray has slowly improved his play in goal for Ottawa, logging 6 wins in 19 appearances with a 3.55 GAA this season.
The Calgary Flames will look to bounce back in their first game since their 5-1 loss to Ottawa. Johnny Gaudreau leads the Flames in scoring with 20 points including a team-high 9 goals and 11 assists while Elias Lindholm is right behind with 19 points including a team-high 13 assists. Matthew Tkachuk has 16 points with 7 goals and 9 assists in addition to 79 shots on goal, leading Calgary in that respect. Sean Monahan has 15 points and Rasmus Andersson has 13 points has 13 points with Monahan and Andersson combining for 21 assists of the 28 points. Jacob Markstrom continues to miss time with an upper body injury which is big as he leads the Flames with an 8-7 record in goal, with a pair of shutouts and a 2.87 GAA while David Rittich has just a pair of wins and a shutout with a 2.92 GAA in 10 appearances.
Ottawa is 17-41 in their last 58 games overall and 14-51 in their last 65 road games while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog. Calgary is 2-6 in their last 8 games overall and 8-2 in their last 10 games as a home favorite while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games playing on 2 days rest. The over is 3-0-1 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
I think a case could be made for either side, as Calgary’s the better team but the Senators have stepped up in spots where we really least expect them to. With that said, I’m going to take a shot with the Sens here. Calgary hasn’t been dominant at home by any stretch and Ottawa’s won six of their last ten games coming into this one and are appearing to play like an NHL team. Who would’ve thought? Anyways. I’m not laying this price with Calgary or going with the Flames puck line so give me the Senators and the plus money in this spot.
