The Detroit Red Wings and the Carolina Hurricanes meet in NHL action from the PNC Arena on Thursday night.
The Detroit Red Wings will look to rebound from a 4-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets in their last matchup. Bobby Ryan leads Detroit in scoring with 13 points with 6 goals and 7 assists while Dylan Larkin has 11 points with 4 goals and 7 assists as well as a team-high 72 shots on goal. Anthony Mantha and Filip Hronek each have 10 points with Mantha putting up 6 goals and 4 helpers and Hronek’s points all coming via assists. Robby Fabbri also has 9 points with 4 goals and 5 assists for the Red Wings this season. Thomas Greiss and Jonathan Bernier continue to split time in goal for Detroit, with Greiss going just 1-14 with a 3.37 GAA this season while Bernier has 6 wins in 12 appearances with a 2.84 GAA.
The Carolina Hurricanes will look to build off of a 4-2 win over Nashville last time out to pick up their 3rd win in a row. Sebastian Aho leads the ‘Canes in scoring with 20 points coming on 8 goals and 12 assists while Vincent Trocheck is right behind with 19 points including a team-high 12 goals and 7 assists. Jordan Staal and Andrei Svechnikov each have 17 points coming on 7 goals and 10 assists while Martin Necas and Dougie Hamilton have combined for 25 assists in their 29 combined points with Hamilton leading the Hurricanes with 67 shots on goal. James Reimer continues to lead the way in goal for Carolina, going 10-3 with a 2.90 GAA in 13 appearances for the ‘Canes this season.
Detroit is 17-59 in their last 76 games overall and 12-47 in their last 59 road games while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games following a loss by 3 or more goals. Carolina is 6-2 in their last 8 home games and 14-6 in their last 20 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games as a home favorite. The favorite is 1-4 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
You could make a case for the plus money and the value with Detroit, but the problem with that is that the Red Wings are not playing well enough to give the plus money any sort of value. Carolina has been one of the better teams in the league early on this season and against a hapless Detroit team that can’t seem to get their act together, I don’t see that changing. Give me the Carolina Hurricanes on the puck line to shave down this ridiculous ML price.
