The Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers meet in NHL action from the BB&T Arena on Monday night.
The Carolina Hurricanes will look to build on their 4-3 shootout win over Florida last time out. Vincent Trocheck, Andrei Svechnikov and Sebastian Aho all have 17 points with Trocheck logging 10 points with 7 assists while Svechnikov has 7 goals with 10 assists and Aho has 6 goals and 11 assists. Jordan Staal has 7 goals and 8 assists for his 15 points while Dougie Hamilton and Nino NIederreiter each have 12 points with Hamilton logging 11 points and Niederreiter posting 9 goals. Brett Pesce has 12 points with 10 assists while Brock McGinn and Martin Necas each have 11 points with McGinn having 7 goals with 4 assists while Necas has 9 apples this season. James Reimer leads Carolina in goal, going 9-3 with a 2.97 GAA this season.
The Florida Panthers will look to bounce back from their loss to the Canes last time out. Jonathan Huberdeau leads the Panthers in scoring with 24 points including 8 goals and 16 assists while Aleksander Barkov has 21 points with 8 goals and 13 assists. PAtric Hornqvist has 9 goals and 9 assist for his 18 points and Carter Verhaeghe has split his 14 points between 7 goals and 7 assists. Sergei Bobrovsky has split goalie time with Chris Driedger, going 6-3 with a 3.02 GAA while Driedger’s gone 7-2 with a 2.18 GAA this season.
Carolina is 4-1 in their last 5 games as a favorite and 64-30 in their last 94 games as a favorite while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games overall. Florida is 20-6 in their last 26 Monday games and 2-6 in their last 8 games as a home underdog while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600. Carolina is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings between these two teams and 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
I get why the Hurricanes may be favored, but the issue I’m having here is that the Panthers have been so good at home while the Hurricanes have had their share of ups and downs on the road. I just see no reason to really favor Carolina here even with the Canes taking the first meeting. I’ll take the plus money at home with Florida in this spot.
