The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers meet in NHL action from Rogers Place on Saturday night.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will look to build on a 2-1 OT win over Calgary last time out. Auston Matthews leads Toronto in scoring with 31 points coming on 18 points with 13 assists while Mitch Marner is close behind with 30 points including 9 goals and 21 assists. John Tavares has 17 points with 6 goals and 11 helpers while Morgan Rielly and William Nylander also have 16 points apiece, with Rielly posting 14 assists and Nylander logging 7 goals and 9 helpers. Jake Muzzin’s got 12 points with 11 assists and Zach Hyman, Jason Spezza and Alex Kerfoot all have 11 points with 4 goals and 7 assists.
The Edmonton Oilers will be looking to add ot their totals after a 3-0 win over the Canucks last time out. Connor McDavid’s got 40 points with 14 goals and 26 assists while Leon Draisaitl isn’t far behind with 34 points including 10 goals and 24 apples. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has 9 goals with 10 assists for his 19 points and Tyson Barrie’s got 18 points with 15 assists. Darnell Nurse has 16 points with 10 apples. Mikko Koskinen continues to lead the goaltenders for Edmonton with 15 appearances including a 7-8 record with a 3.26 GAA while Mike Smith has 6 wins in 7 appearances with a 1.73 GAA and 2 shutouts.
Toronto is 9-1 in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record and 6-1 in their last 7 road games while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 games overall. Edmonton is 5-0 in their last 5games overall and 5-1 in their last 6 home games while the over is 10-4 in their last 14 home games. Toronto is 20-8 in the last 28 meetings between these two teams and 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in Edmonton.
The Pick here is going to be contingent on the status of Leafs goalie Frederik Andersen. I’m assuming he will go only being questionable for this game and if he plays, I’ll back Toronto. The leafs need all the help and pieces they can get without Auston Matthews in the lineup on Saturday because of a wrist problem. I still think we’re getting a good price with the better team in Toronto, but maybe it’s for a reason. I’ll side with Toronto based on the contingencies I listed earlier.
