The Chicago Blackhawks and the Columbus Blue Jackets meet in NHL action from the Nationwide Arena on Thursday night.
The Chicago Blackhawks will look to build on a 6-5 win over the Blue Jackets in their last matchup. Patrick Kane leads the Blackhawks in scoring with 30 points coming on 9 goals and 21 assists while Alex DeBrincat has 19 points with 9 goals and 10 helpers. Dominik Kubalik has 16 points with 6 goals and 10 assists while Mattias Janmark and Pius Suter each have 11 points coming on 6 goals and 5 assists. Kevin Lankinen continues to steal the show in goal for Chicago, going 8-4 with a 2.59 GAA and a shutout this season.
The Columbus Blue Jackets will try to rebound from a frustrating loss to the Blackhawks last time out. Oliver Bjorkstrand and Cam Atkinson each have 16 points with Bjorkstrand logging 10 assists and 6 goals while Atkinson’s 16 are split 8 goals and 8 assists. Patrik Laine has 13 points with 8 goals and 5 assists and Jack Roslovic has 12 points with 4 goals and 8 helpers. Boone Jenner and Seth Jones each have 11 points with Jones logging 10 assists and Jenner scoring 6 goals with 5 assists and Nick Foligno has 4 goals and 6 assists for his 10 points on the year. Joonas Korpisalo and Elvis Merzlikins continue to share time in goal for the Blue Jackets with Korpisalo posting 5 wins and a 3.56 GAA in 14 appearances while Elvis has a 3-4 record with a shutout and a 2.81 GAA.
Chicago is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 5-1 in their last 6 road games while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record. Columbus is 1-4 in their last 5 games overall and 2-5 in their last 7 games as a favorite while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games as a home favorite. The under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
I understand the case that could be made for either side here, but I’m going to head towards the total here and back the under. I still like the goaltending from Kevin Lankinen for Chicago and Columbus usually plays a physical brand of hockey to begin with. I think you’re going to see a game here where whoever wins this game is going to earn it and I could honestly see a 3-2 game either way so give me the under here.
