The Minnesota Wild and the Colorado Avalanche meet in NHL action from the Ball Arena on Wednesday night.
The Minnesota Wild will look to build off of a 6-2 win over San Jose in their last matchup. Kirill Kaprizov leads the Wild in scoring with 13 points coming on 4 goals with 9 assists while Joel Greenway has 11 points with 9 assists of his own and Joel Eriksson Ek has 10 points with a team-high 6 goals and 4 assists. After Eriksson Ek, six Minnesota players have 7 points on the year as well, including Mats Zuccarello, Zach Parise and Kevin Fiala with Fiala logging 6 goals and Zuccarello and Parise each notching 2 goals and 5 assists. Kaapo Kahkonen has started 10 games in goal for Minnesota with a 2.41 GAA and a 6-4 record while Cal Talbot has 3 wins in 6 appearances with a 2.40 GAA.
The Colorado Avalanche will try to rebound from a 3-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights in their last matchup. Nathan MacKinnon has 18 points with 4 goals and 14 assists while Mikko Rantanen and Cal Makar each have 13 and 12 points respectively with Rantanen logging 7 goals and 6 assists while Makar has 11 assists. Brandon Saad, Samuel Girard and Joonas Donskoi each have 10 points as well for Colorado up to this point in the season. Philipp Grubauer continues to be the leader between the pipes for the Avs, going 9-4 with a pair of shutouts and a 1.78 GAA.
Minnesota is 14-5 in their last 19 road games and 1-5 in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win. Colorado is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall and 5-1 in their last 6 home games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games as a favorite. Minnesota is 2-5 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Colorado.
I’m not sure which side has the stronger case here, but for my pick here, I’m not trying to lay this kind of juice with a Colorado team fresh off of their loss to Vegas last time out. Minnesota also plays a ton of tight, physical games to begin with, so I’ll take my chances with Minnesota and the plus money in this one in what’s a lean at best.
