The Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils meet Tuesday in NHL action at the Prudential Center.
The Buffalo Sabres need a win after losing five of their last six games. The Buffalo Sabres are averaging 2.3 goals per game and are scoring on 31.1 percent of their power play opportunities. Victor Olofsson leads Buffalo with six goals, Jack Eichel has 11 assists and Rasmus Dahlin has 38 shots on goal. Defensively, the Buffalo Sabres are allowing 3.1 goals per game and are killing 78.6 percent of their opponents power plays. Carter Hutton has given up 13 goals on 128 shots faced and Linus Ullmark has given up 24 goals on 264 shots.
The New Jersey Devils need a win after losing five of their last eight games. The New Jersey Devils are averaging 2.8 goals per game and are scoring on 15.8 percent of their power play opportunities. Miles Wood leads New Jersey with five goals, Jack Hughes has seven assists and P.K. Subban has 33 shots on goal. Defensively, the New Jersey Devils are allowing 2.7 goals per game and are killing 59.5 percent of their opponents power plays. Mackenzie Blackwood has allowed eight goals on 154 shots faced and Scott Wedgewood has allowed 14 goals on 141 shots.
The Sabres are 17-51 in their last 68 road games and 23-47 in their last 70 games as an underdog. The Devils are 2-5 in their last 7 home games and 5-21 in their last 26 Tuesday games. The under is 4-0 in Sabres last 4 overall. The under is 5-1 in Devils last 6 home games. The Sabres are 3-8 in the last 11 meetings in New Jersey and 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
The Buffalo Sabres continue to get the short end of the stick and I don't expect their issues to improve on the end of a back to back. The Sabres just can't find consistent offense and the losses continue to pile up. The New Jersey Devils have had issues of their own, but they do have a rest advantage here and they have won four of their last five games as a home favorite. I have to back the Devils, although it is more of a fade from the Sabres than anything else.
