The Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins meet in outdoor NHL action from Lake Tahoe on Sunday.
The Philadelphia Flyers will look to rebound from a 3-2 shootout loss to the New York Rangers last time out. James van Riemsdyk leads the Flyers in scoring with 18 points coming on 7 goals and 11 assists while Kevin Hayes and Joel Farabee each have 13 points with Hayes logging 6 goals and 7 assists and Farabee flipping the stats with 7 goals and 6 helpers. Jakub Voracek’s got 12 points with 3 goals and 9 assists and Claude Giroux has 11 points with 10 assists as well on the year. Carter Hart continues to see the bulk of Philly’s action in goal, winning 5 gmaes with a 3.31 GAA in 10 appearances while Brian Elliott has a 2.19 GAA with a 3-1-1 mark and a shutout in 5 appearances.
The Boston Bruins will look to bounce back from their 3-2 loss to New Jersey last time out. Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron each have 18 points with Marchand splitting 9 goals and 9 assists while Bergeron’s got 7 goals and 11 assists. Charlie McAvoy’s got 11 assists as part of his 12 points while David Pastrnak and Nick Ritchie each have 11 points with Pastrnak putting up 6 goals with 5 helpers and Ritchie flipping it with 5 goals and 6 assists. David Krejci also has 10 assists for Boston this season. Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halak continue to split time in goal for Boston, with Halak posting a 6-3 record with a 2.51 GAA while Halak’s gone 4-2 with a shutout and a 1.66 GAA.
Philadelphia is 27-13 in their last 40 games overall and 6-1 in their last 7 Sunday games while the over is 5-2-1 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record. Boston is 9-3 in their last 12 games overall and 7-1 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 Sunday games. Philadelphia is 0-4 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
I think you can easily make the case for either side here, as Boston’s a strong team but the Flyers are also a power and are bringing some real value to the table with this plus money here. However, the great equalizer here like we saw on Saturday is the elements of an outdoor game. Granted the NHL will probably be better prepared for everything here, but that doesn’t change the fact that these outdoor games are usually sloppy because of the surface and it tends to result in lower scoring games. I think we have more of the same here, so I’ll back the under here.
