The Los Angeles Kings and the Arizona Coyotes meet in NHL action from the Gila River Arena on Thursday night.
The Los Angeles Kings will look to build on a 4-0 win over the Minnesota Wild in their last matchup. Anze Kopitar leads the Kings in scoring with 18 points including 4 goals and a team-high 14 assists while Dustin Brown has 13 points split between 7 goals and 6 assist and Drew Doughty’s got 12 points on 4 goals and 8 assists this season. Alex Iafallo and Adrian Kempe each have 9 points with Iafallo logging 3 goals with 6 assists and Kempe posting 4 goals with 5 helpers. Jeff Carter also has 8 points for the Kings this season, logging a pair of goals and 6 assists. Cal Petersen and Jonathan Quick continue to split time in goal, with Petersen posting a pair of wins and a team-best 2.49 GAA while Quick has a 3-4 record with a shutout and a 3.42 GAA in 7 appearances this season.
The Arizona Coyotes will look to build on a 1-0 win over St. Louis last time out. Conor Garland leads the Coyotes in scoring with 14 points including 6 goals and 8 assists while Christian Dvorak is right behind with 13 points including 7 goals and 6 helpers and Nick Schmaltz has 6 goals and 7 assists for 13 points of his own. Jakob Chychrun has 11 points with 8 assists and 3 goals and Clayton Keller is right behind with 10 points including 5 goals and 5 assists and Phil Kessel has 8 points split between 4 goals and 4 assists this season. Darcy Kuemper’s seen the majority of the action between the pipes for Arizona, registering 5 wins with a shutout and a 2.26 GAA this season.
Los Angeles is 15-40 in their last 55 road games and 2-5 in their last 7 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 Thursday games. Arizona is 2-6 in their last 8 games following a win and 26-53 in their last 79 Thursday games while the over is 4-1-1 in their last 6 games as a favorite. The under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
I get why you’d make the case for the Coyotes as they just could not be beaten by the Blues over the majority of that ridiculous seven straight game stretch that they played St. Louis. However, this is still a hefty price tag for an Arizona team that isn’t the most consistent team in terms of finding the back of the net, and I’m not sure I want anything to do with them at a cheaper price. On the other hand, the Kings have been up and down in their own right and I never really know what to expect on a game-to-game basis. Instead, I’m going to back the under as I think we have a tight, physical battle on our hands and I would not be surprised with a 3-1 final here whichever way you have it. Give me the under.
